This is ideal for someone who would enjoy the social and cultural buzz of the city within easy walking distance, while also being close to two charming harbour beaches and some great walks. Its a good arrangement for you if you value your own private space whenever you want it, but also enjoy a stimulating environment.
Our comfortable inner city 112 year old Victorian villa is a two minute walk to Ponsonby Road. Accommodation is self-contained - and that's ideal for the lockdown period. (see guest room photos), with your own separate entrance, private veranda, generous double bed, kitchenette with microwave, hot plate, toaster and small fridge, dining table/desk, laundry machine and en suite bathroom/toilet. Free wifi (within reason!)

Because were on an unusually wide section for a city house, we have dedicated space for a traditional herb garden that our neighbours can also enjoy,a tree viewing platform and raised beds for an organic kitchen garden.Kind of like the country comes to town!Maybe you'll have some ideas for its improvement!

At this time, we would welcome someone with good computer skills who can help with straightforward audio podcasts (the basics are already set up..but we're not yet confident) and a few general IT matters.
Other than that, we always appreciate carpentry and gardening/landscaping skills or general household help.
If any of the above sounds like your bag, we'll roll out the red carpet for you. Or you two.
A happy and enjoyable time is guaranteed!

Around 4 hours work a day per person seems fair to us, with absolutely free weekend. We're flexible when you carry it out. (It could even be a couple of hours early in the day, and the rest late afternoon or early evening. Your call!) Initially for about one week - but a little longer may be possible by subsequent agreement.

In the end, it's about give and take. We're shocked when we hear of incidents where helpers have been treated as staff. That's definitely not our style! If you're easy-going,lively-minded, with high ideals and a sense of humour, you'll probably find this to be a very positive experience. For us, it will be a privilege having you stay here.

A cooked dinner, which is mostly undogmatic vegetarian/organic and includes dessert, is provided Monday-Thursday. We'd love you to join us, but we understand that you might also like to have the prepared meal in your own space.Remembering our own backpacker days, we try to create the sort of flexible situation that we would have appreciated.

We've lived in Europe and, for a shorter time, East Asia, for most of our lives and have a cosmopolitan outlook, a big library of books and a lively lot of friends. We also run a cafe philosophy group. As well as English, we speak Danish and some Italian.

If you're interested in films -and we certainly are -here's an extra: We've constructed a replica of a 20th century art deco cinema, with 16 seats, and have regular screenings of interesting vintage/off-beat films for movie-loving friends. You'd be very welcome to join us at these engaging events.

WE'RE CERTAINLY NOT GRUMPY PEOPLE, BUT WE DON'T APPRECIATE GENERAL REQUESTS FOR ACCOMMODATION THAT ARE SENT OUT TO HEAPS OF POTENTIAL HOSTS AND DON'T ADDRESS THE SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT WE'RE SEEKING IN EXCHANGE. SUCH GENERIC REQUESTS WILL PROBABLY NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE.

PLEASE INITIATE CONTACT VIA HELPX, RATHER THAN TEXT OR PHONE. THANKS.
