*Coronavirus update:
It is with a very heavy heart that we are suspending our volunteer program, until things calm down a bit.
We understand the situation is difficult for all the backpackers out there, but we are unfortunately unable to welcome anyone else at this point in time. *

We are looking for help in our sled dog kennel. We live in the middle of Gippsland, close to the 90 mile beach. The closest town (Sale) is a 20 minutes drive away.

We have 71 dogs (85% of them rescues), some chooks, a few sheep, and Toby and Chancy, the miniature ponies (plus some wandering koalas, kangaroos, and possums).
We are looking for help in caring for our animals and helping maintain and renovate our farm. We are looking for people interested in coming for a minimum of three weeks, as some of our rescues need time to get used to new faces.

The kind of jobs depend on the season, from the fun time of year when all our huskies are blowing their coats and need bathing and grooming, to the quieter June-August when most of the dogs are up the mountains running, and the farm needs painting, fencing, and general looking after.

We organise the week for the helpers with some set hours of work and days off, so you know in advance when you have free time to go around and explore the area. Our helpers are usually quite independent with how they organise their day. You are, of course, always welcome to join in with the more technical jobs revolving around sled dogs training, if it is that time of the year and you are up for a discovery!

The sleeping accommodations are a separate unit on the farm, with electricity and running water. We also provide weekly shopping. This is not a typical helpX accommodation set-up, in the sense that you will not be immersed in a family, but rather part of a community of other volunteers and travellers. What I mean is that, although we do gather regularly to spend evenings together, there will be times where you might not see us for a few days in a row, if we are on the road for our businesses.

We do not ask for any previous experience working with dogs. We also have an ethical approach to animal welfare and expect our helpers to understand that, in order to maintain our high standards of care, they will have to get muddy and work in the rain at times!

We look forward to having people join our pack and hope to communicate our passion for sled dogs!
