We invite you to volunteer and participate in creating a unique, beautiful, and fascinating experience...
We are a registered educational charity, and we organise, build and run a unique, tented, sustainable venue - a temporary eco-village, situated on a plant nursery on the banks of the River Teme, in lush countryside overlooked by the Malvern Hills in the West of England.
Every summer since 1990, our trustees (all volunteers) and many other volunteers from all walks of life come together and create something truly inspiring - and we would like you to be part of that!
We encourage people who like working hard and having fun to get involved - activities include;
Erecting tents, marquees, yurts, domes and other structures;
Site infrastructure e.g. plumbing & electricity - solar energy array;
Maintaining our organically grown kitchen garden; washing up;
Baking bread and cooking wonderful, wholesome, vegetarian, organic, and locally sourced food in our kitchen;
'Housekeeping' of the rental accommodation for our participants, meeting and greeting our visitors and making their stay special;
Revelling in music and laughter in our fully licensed, volunteer-built bar...
You will be supported and encouraged to be involved in whatever you feel most comfortable doing, and we always appreciate new ideas and feedback - we are all about education, participation, and celebration of the human spirit!
The most diverse range of activities are during the set-up and take down of the site - BUT we do need and are always keen for volunteers who are willing and able to stay for the events and for longer periods during the season.
These are our provisional arrival dates for volunteering at events in Summer 2019- more dates will be added:
SET UP - 13th-28h June 2019
TAKE DOWN - 5h-12th August 2019(approximate end date).
We generally ask that for your first volunteering experience, you join us for at least one week, as this gives you a chance to learn something about how we work and to make more of a contribution, and allows us to share skills and get to know you better - but very often volunteers end up staying for much longer!
Working days are about 8 hours long. During set-up and take-down our working days usually begin at 9 am with a short meeting to discuss and decide plans, and finish late afternoon, with regular tea and cake breaks - but during events, the different tasks have very different working hours. For example, some people will be up at 6 am to light fires for the showers, whereas the bar workers usually finish late at night, so will start much later in the day too!
During setup/takedown there is some choice on which days you want to take off, but during events, you must be willing to work all the days of the event - between conferences we usually have 2-3 days off.
Basically, we are flexible as long as you let us know what jobs you are comfortable doing!
ALL ACCOMMODATION IS TENTED - you will need to bring your own tent/tipi/gipsy caravan.
All food (3 meals a day) is vegetarian, organic, fresh, and local when possible - we are renowned for delicious, nutritious, and filling food, and can cater for all dietary requirements.
Please note, this is England, and English summers are well known for being WET - although we are hoping and praying for a warm, dry season, please make sure you bring appropriate clothing and footwear!
**** PLEASE NOTE that a fluent, conversational level of English is necessary to safely and fully participate in our work - you should be comfortable trying to have a full conversation with the many people from across the world that come here. If English is not your first language, we will arrange for a short telephone/Skype conversation to establish your level of English *****
Any questions please email us and we can discuss.
Looking forward to meeting you!
