April 2020 - we are open and have loads of construction and farming projects underway!
We are a small farm and are considered an agri-tourism destination as we have a "Healing Spring" on the property. Discovered in 1883 the water from the spring has many curative powers. The spring is available for free to anyone who wants to come and get the water.
We are near many great hiking destinations, Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and the many trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway that crosses through our part of the state of North Carolina. We are just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance several larger cities.
We raise Belted Galloway cattle, heritage breed pigs and heritage breed chickens (both egg layers and meat chickens). Our cattle is grass fed / pasture raised from conception to slaughter. Our pigs and chickens are pasture raised as well.
For 2020, our projects are going to be maintenance / renovation in nature as we are working on our historic cabins. We are looking for folks with construction skills (carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, etc).
For this year, we are focused on pastured chickens and pigs as well as our cattle.
We are drug free and insist that our HelpXers are as well. We donít mind the use of tobacco, outside Ė away from any buildings. A beer after the workday is fine, but this isn't the place for you if you drink to excess. No drama, we get plenty of that from our cows!
We provide a lodging (with utilities including WiFi) and will give you a weekly stipend. We are happy to consider couples, friends traveling together, a family or folks with a dog.
