We are looking for a couple to help with the olive harvest for the month of November. It's hard work, but interesting and can be fun. We like to have helpers for a minimum of a month and you would also be required to help in our cat rescue. We need self starters with a can do attitude to help care for our 65 plus cats. Previous cat care experience would be useful. You should be ready to commit for a month or more. Syros is a different Greek island. Things happen here all year, so there's always plenty going on and although the winter can be cool and damp, it has a charm of its own.
I try to have three or four volunteers at any one time, so the work is not too time-consuming or onerous and everyone can take some time off. Animal care is relentless - the cats want to be fed every day! I'm trying to be more savvy with social media, but we need to raise funds all the time, so if you have these skills it would be good.

I am British, a retiree from a lifetime in education and live in Syros; a small Greek island. I feed and care for a colony of around sixty five stray cats. The numbers of strays on the island is ever growing and they are seen as a pest by some locals. Consequently many of the cats have a hard time. To address the problem, I set up, a not for profit organisation to neuter, rescue and medicate strays. Many of the cats in the colony were abandoned kittens that we have hand-reared or victims of accidents. I grow lavender and make lavender products to raise money for food, medication and veterinary fees, which are sold to locals and visitors. So there's always plenty to do and we need some help! A small room with en suite and simple cooking facilities is offered in exchange for three or four hours a day to help care for sixty five plus rescued cats and kittens. Some food is provided. Female or couple over twenty five preferred who can commit to one or two months.

We offer lavender products which we make, to raise funds for the expenses and help with this and our social media campaigns would also be welcome. You must be a serious cat lover and previous experience is preferred. Only stays of one month or more are possible as it takes a while to get to know the cats and vice versa. You can see more about us on facebook and our website.

You can take a full day off each week and a couple of evenings. You will have plenty of free time to enjoy life on a traditional Greek island. We have good walking, nice beaches and a safe environment.
