Ian and I are two retired Biologists enjoying life on a new (to us) farm where we can grow larger flocks of our heritage chickens in the most healthy way. The raising of breeder flocks, collecting and washing eggs, and growing forage for our birds are ongoing tasks. We are also refurbishing old barns and building coops, etc. The veggie garden will need to be planted soon and we need help with planting shrubs and trees, and prep for cover crops in the pasture areas. There is also a family cow you can learn to milk and learn to make dairy products like yogurt, butter and kefir.

Ian and I have a tremendous amount of knowledge about (and experience in) Canadian ecosystems, especially in British Columbia. If you are interested in Ecology, Animal Husbandry, Genetics or the trills and spills of running a small farm, you can learn a lot here!

We are located in Armstrong, a real farming town about 20 minutes from Vernon. This is a great area for hiking and bird watching in summer, and we are close to Silver Star for winter skiing. There are several local wineries to visit and lots of wild life like deer, quail, coyote, rabbits, and the odd bear.

We would like people to stay for a minimum of 3 weeks. There are 2 nice bedrooms (one with 2 beds); we have a cat, and sometimes many baby chicks in the house, so you must not have allergies to dust and dander. The kitchen is very active, making dairy products, baking bread and lots of wonderful meals with the bounty of fresh foods. We expect Helpers to do some of the cooking and share their favorite recipes with us!
