We live and run 2 farming businesses one in Wanaka and the other in Haast, West Coast. We run mostly beef cattle on run blocks that are mustered by horse, jet boat and occasionally the use of a helicopter. We also run a small number of sheep and a few hundred deer. Our time is spent living and travelling between the 2 areas and a typical day would be feeding animals, fencing, shifting stock, property maintenance. Your accomodation would be a private bedroom with a shared bathroom in our family home, you would share family meals and be treated as one of the family. The work would be varied and very flexible depending on your abilities and what you have to offer thee would opportunity to enjoy what our regions have to offer, skiing, biking, tramping, hunting, fishing, horse riding. Our farm on the West Coast is fairly isolated and there is no mobile coverage but we have access to Internet and find we are too busy enjoying the outdoors to ever get bored. There could be an opportunity for use of a Motor vehicle to explore on your time off.
We are hoping to find helpers that would like to immerse themselves in our daily farming life and wanting to learn farming practices in New Zealand. This will be an opportunity for you to get out of your comfort zone, challenge yourselve, problem solve and get out into some of the most beautiful land in New Zealand, we live next to the Clutha River in Queensberry, Wanaka and next to National park, native bush , rivers and the Sea in Haast.
Please feel free to ask questions, this is very new to us and we are very much looking forward to learning things from our helpers along the way.
