We are a small family run organic farm, located in one of the most beautiful locations in Australia, The Otways, along the Great Ocean Road. Our Farm is situated about 20 mins drive from Apollo Bay, and not too far from Lavers Hill, Hordern Vale, Glenaire and Cape Otway. You can get to us by train, (from Melbourne to Colac), and we can pick you up in Colac, or you can get the bus past Lorne, and we will pick you up from Apollo Bay. Or if you have a car, you can drive to us very easily.

We are right on the edge of the Great Otways National Park, so we see Koalas, Kangaroos and Wallabies, Echidnas, Possums and many unique birds every day. We are 10 minutes from beautiful beaches, waterfalls, world class hiking trails on the Great Ocean Walk, and we are surrounded by ancient, undisturbed forests. 5 minutes walk from our farm, though the forest is a natural swimming-hole, and a mossy, fern gully creek and waterfall. After a hard days work, you can swim there, or we often drive our helpers down to the beach or the river for swims or fishing on hot days.

Our farm uses only organic practices, we do not spray, and we weed and fertilise everything by hand, so there is always plenty of work to do! We grow garlic, fruits, vegetables and medicinal herbs. We have very happy free ranging chickens on the farm to collect eggs, and very happy free ranging sheep which graze on the grass to keep grass down.

Help is always needed on the farm to do a wide variety of tasks. Physical strength and fitness is required. We prefer if you have experience on organic farms, permaculture, gardening or farm work. We would also love to hear from anyone who has experience with beekeeping as we want to start producing honey soon, or experience in natural building techniques, particularly cob or mud brick as we plan to build a mudbrick sauna.

The kinds of work required by helpers at the farm includes:
-Collecting fallen branches and Using a small chainsaw to chop firewood
-Weeding using hand tools, garden forks- this requires a moderate level of strength and fitness
-digging and shovelling compost and fertiliser
-planting seedlings
-feeding and caring for chickens
-Using a lawn mower
-harvesting and processing produce
-cooking for each other
-various lifting, carting things around with a wheel-barrow and general labour, requiring a moderate level of fitness and strength
-Planting trees
-Carpentry and building using power tools

We have warm, comfortable and unique accomodation for up to 5 people at a time, including a beautiful tree-house, and a converted shipping-container Studio. The accomodation on the farm is Eco-friendly. We use rainwater that we collect from the sky, our used-water is recycled onto our garden, and our electricity comes from hydro-electricity, meaning it is produced from wind and water. Our firewood is all sustainably collected. There's a pot belly fire place to keep warm and a beautiful Green-house shower-room, you are surrounded by ferns and plants while you have hot showers.

Very decent meals are provided with accomodation in exchange for your help and labour. You help prepare meals with us, and we all eat together like a family.

We ask that helpers stay for 4 days minimum. There is so much to see and do in the area, The Otways has so much to offer. This includes Kayaking (in summer), hiking, biking, a sight-seeing trip to any of the beautiful nearby beaches, waterfalls and ancient rainforest. Or you might want to go into town for a coffee, or go to the Saturday markets. If Helpers work hard and get the tasks done we often reward them with a sight-seeing excursion of your choice, as a reward for hard work.

We ask for about 6-8 hours work per day, depending on skill/fitness levels and seasonal work-load. We are always flexible and willing to negotiate with helpers about work-load as to what we all need. So long as the work on our farm gets done, we are flexible and happy to accomodate our Helpers.

We definitely want you to be hard working, and have a medium level of fitness/strength as the work can be physically demanding. We love to listen to music or podcasts while we work to keep it fun. At night after work we watch movies, read books, play games, play guitar around the fire, and generally eat, drink and be merry, and we encourage our Helpers to enjoy themselves while you are here! There is plenty of space to be quiet and relax alone, as well as hang out together, whatever suits you.

We prefer people who have a positive, easy-going, fun and flexible nature. We ourselves are very open minded, inclusive, fun, hard working, relaxed and easy going. We welcome everyone here, we love to learn about your culture, foods, language and country. We have requirements that our space is non-violent, queer friendly, inclusive, and non discriminatory space. We do not tolerate any violence, sexism, racism or homophobia. We are all equals.

We will treat you with utmost respect and kindness, and in return we expect Helpers to treat us, each other, and our farm respectfully and kindly.

We would love to hear from you! Please get in touch and include a brief introduction about yourself, your experience with working on farms, or with helpX/Woofing etc, your skill/ fitness level, how long you would like to stay, and what you hope to gain/share by staying with us. Please include any references if you have them, and your contact details.

Please use the helpX messaging system to contact us by email or call or text. If you call and get no answer, please text.

Hope to hear from you soon!
