~ SORRY :( We can't take any helpers at this time ~
Perfect retreat space! (Couples welcome)
This is the ideal situation for someone who wants time and space for meditation, quiet reflection, walks in nature, working on your writing or artwork, and such.
Denman Island is a wonderfully quiet, sunny, nature-drenched place to spend a summer! (http://www.denmanisland.com has tons of info about the island.)
From our beautiful 16+ acre maple, cedar, and fir tree forest, you can hike the trails all the way to the park at the southern tip of the Island to look out over the lighthouse islet, see eagles nesting below you, and watch for seals and sea lions swimming. Or canoe on our adjacent wildlife marsh. If you prefer being at the ocean, quiet ocean beaches are about a half-hour walk away, down country lanes.
Here you can enjoy plenty of tranquil beauty and fresh, healing air! If you like trees, birds and wildlife, or relaxing at a beach you'd have pretty much all to yourself, you will love it here.
You will have your own private accommodations: an almost-fully-equipped spacious house to yourself among the trees, very quiet and peaceful. Bird songs and soaring eagles and sometimes deer will keep you company.
Note: there is no phone/internet/tv, and limited cell phone reception. For occasional internet needs, there's wifi at the main house; ditto for landline phone access.
As for us... We're creating an organic homestead, ideally a permaculture food forest one day (though we don't know much about that yet).
If you would like to contribute to creating our sustainable, healthy small farm, there's a lot to be done as optional choices. The rest of this is heavy work, so we need STRONG, enthusiastic, motivated hands to help with some of these tasks this year...
* Planting & weeding garden beds
* Digging holes & planting bushes
* Bramble removal
* Collecting seaweed
* Gardening & Harvesting
* Orchard care
* Recovering an old grape garden, including fencing
* Finishing & planting in a rock wall
* Brick pathways
* Moving gravel
* Putting together greenhouses
* Falling small trees
* Bucking deadwood into firewood
* Moving and/or splitting Firewood
* Possibly various carpentry odd-jobs, like shed, solar oven, solar dehydrator, deck, chicken-coop and chicken tractor, rose and grape arbours, maybe a small cabin...
You'll learn a lot about living more sustainably: conserving water, using wood heat, developing self-sufficiency. It's a little rustic here, but very pleasant. There is an outhouse, for example, though the rest of the bathroom is standard. It helps if you are open to learning daily tips to living a more sustainable lifestyle. It requires being conscious of details and willing to do a bit extra. We can guide you through it, though, with detailed directions.
As for us, we have a very sweet, gentle, older dog and 3 shy but companionable cats. It's a non-smoking environment; we are also non-drinkers and prefer the same, but very light drinking is acceptable.
We live very quietly. We also need some privacy, so you will enjoy it more if you like to spend time on your own, than if you enjoy a lot of chatting and visiting.
Currently, most of our energy is going into a healing process, which also requires a very restricted and simple diet. So we can't share meals. We'll supply you with food and you'll have all you need to cook in, though, so you can eat as you like!
We have a lot of skills we are happy to share, everything from archery and weaving to health/healing to spiritual practices like yoga, dreamwork, and Earth-based practices. But our greatest offering is mentorship: We are very good at helping people find out who they really are, and how to be that; discover their strengths and balance their weaknesses; reconnect with Spirit; figure out their values and dreams and goals and how to reach them in practical ways -- this includes career and business success.
Staying here helps you gain life skills that will serve you well and increase your satisfaction, happiness, and success for the rest of your life.
This position requires a lot of upper body strength and energy. If you are hard-working, strong, motivated self-starter, willing to follow instructions, enjoy the satisfaction of doing a job well, open-minded, gay-friendly, polite, honest, and honourable, we'd love to hear from you! ??
