We are Jan and Mary, a friendly Dutch couple, who are currently making their dream come true… we recently became the proud owners of our very own authentic 17th century farm in beautiful Dordogne, France. Our next step is to turn the old farm into a vacation rental. Actually the previous owners already did that, but we want to give the place our own personal touch.

The accommodation and property is a combination of both our names. Once we have received the keys to the property, mid February, there lies quite the work that needs to be done ahead of us. Especially when we aim at welcoming our first guests before the summer starts! And this is where we could use an extra pair of hands, in which we offer a very comfortable stay, an inspiring environment and - who knows - a new friendship in return.

To share our enthusiasm and hopefully to welcome you as our 'new friends, we want to inspire you with a brief description of the story behind our property, former farmhouse and what you can expect when visiting us...

Situated in the magnificent Dordogne-region, our authentic 17th century former farm lies just a stone's throw away from the picturesque Saint Saud Lacoussière village, a place where time stood still and where you can experience La vie en France how it used to be. What is also special about our property, is our magnificent view of rolling landscapes, endless forests, picturesque villages and impressive castles. And with its 6 acres of land, historic buildings, captivating nature, has all right ingredients for a healthy work-relax balance. And let us not forget to mention that one of France's most beautiful parks - Périgord Limousin - also lies within walking distance. Here you can hike, swim or cycle on centuries-old paths with chestnut trees, along rivers with fast-flowing water.

About the work that needs to be done, this varies from uplifting the rooms, redecorating a bit, maintaining the garden, painting some walls... but most important: we need a pool! So this would be a project you would be working on with us. Will you be the first person to take a dive into the premium pool? In short, we really need quite the handy and motivated people, and maybe also some 'Muscles from Bruxelles'.

In return we will offer you a comfortable place to relax and sleep, with enough privacy. This will be in one of our apartments, a tent or caravan. A meal will be served three times a day, with drinks and a good glas of wine during lunch and dinner. We will also offer you time-off for a cultural exploration of the area, in which you can head out and discover historic villages and cities such as Brantôme (the Venice of the Dordogne), St. Jean de Côle (perhaps the most beautiful village in France) and Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne.

Last, but not least, about us:

After a life of working as a building engineer (Jan) and a secretary (Mary), we decided that life is absolutely more than facing daily traffic, deadlines and the weather in the Netherlands. We also found it important staying active and healthy while getting (a little) older. This motivated us to change the way we live(d), resulting in our very own farmhouse in the Dordogne. We speak Dutch, English and a little bit of French (still working on the last one). So if you hear us calling ‘Belle, belle’, it's not just because we're so happy with the environment we live in… it also means that we are looking for our beagle! She already had a French name when we welcomed here into the family. We love having dinner with friends and sharing a glass of wine while exchanging stories from around the world.

We’re looking forward to work with a motivated team to give the farm the TLC it needs and maybe make some new friends. We hope to see you in France!

What/Who/When we need...
A swimming pool needs to be built, furniture needs to be painted, walls need to be rendered, masonry, joint filling, the old farm needs to be fixed… actually there is work for everyone.

We are looking for quite the handy, experienced people. With the swimming pool and the masonry work as a priority, a bricklayer / mason would be very welcome. Creative persons, with the right motivation, a sense of humor and a can-do mentality. Young or old, it does not matter, as long as you enjoy life with a smile, eat what is being served, don’t smoke (inside) and do not use drugs.

We want to open for business starting from May/June 2018, which means we would need your help starting from May until the end of June.

What we offer in return...
We truly value a work / relax balance and appreciate every effort that is being made. For this we will provide you with a meal three times a day, a daily glass of French quality wine and also a place to live/sleep (with enough privacy) in a cosy caravan or gite (if available).

Furthermore you will have enough time off to explore the magic that our beautiful environment has to offer. As for a learning experience, this could be the French language or getting to know more about the perks of living a life on the French countryside.

And last, but not least, who knows… you will also receive a lasting friendship in return.
