Once upon a time, in a land far far away, ... we decided to embark on an environmental project that could tackle the problem of plastic pollution in the sea. We needed a boat to take to sea and assess the situation! We wanted to take people out to see with their own eyes how much plastic has invaded our waters and make them understand the implications of this type of pollution: learn about the millions of marine birds, the thousands of whales, dolphins, turtles, that die every year because they ingest quantities of plastic items they cannot digest.
The ideal boat would be a wooden one that could symbolize the necessity to keep an organic approach towards life, that could represent the need of taking care of our environment, that could sail upon the waters like a magnificent albatross.
So we did.
After three years of hard and dedicated work, with the help of numerous volunteers, we have built a 60 foot wooden schooner, we have sailed it from Nova Scotia to the Mediterrranean Sea and are now working to get it ready for the summer season.

We will be doing exactly what we envisioned: taking people out to testify on the state of our seas and to educate them on the consequences that plastic fragments produce in our environment.

Well….. it sounds like all work and no play..!!!? In fact we have been having a lot of fun all the way, learning a lot and meeting loads of interesting people. And summertime in the Med promises to be suuuper fun with lots of sun and beautiful places.
Our area of operations will be mainly in the Gulf of Talamone, next to Parco dell’Uccellina, with some excursions on a broader range within the Cetacean Sanctuary of the Northern Thyrrenean and Ligurian Sea.
As you may have guessed by now, work will involve maintenance of the vessel like sanding - painting - woodwork, wetting and scrubbing the deck, hoisting and taking down sails, interaction with passenger guests, educational presentations, water sampling, daily cleaning, cooking.
We would like to have persons with a minimum of experience in some or all of the skills mentioned, enthusiastic, not afraid to get dirty or to haul on a line or an anchor chain, eager to learn and to offer their knowhow, easy going and ready to interact in a positive way with the rest of the crew.
We prefer mid to long term stays as this will enable the crew to get acquainted with each other and build a fun and efficient team. We welcome both guys and gals.
As part of an environmental effort we are now seeking helpers to finish fit out our 60 foot wooden schooner and preparing it for the sailing season.
Maintenance work, carpentry, painting, sanding, cleaning.
We expect 5 hours of work ( 8am to 1pm) 5 days a week. Weekends free.
We offer accommodation on board, breakfast, light lunch and dinner.
Only serious, hardworking people.
