The garden continues to flourish, as do the weeds- despite the uncertainty and apprehension that surrounds us all worldwide; at the moment plans are being made for Spring (March+) 2021 . If you too are planning ahead do read on ...

I love it here in the foothills of the Pyrenees; Keith and I took early retirement from our hectic and successful careers in the UK to live Keith’s dream here in the beautiful Ariege. We certainly did live the dream together and shared a wonderful life.
Keith recently lost his battle with cancer.
I need two pairs of willing hands; a mature minded, sociable couple, partners or two friends who are prepared to share a double bedroom.

TASKS
are usually gardening based;
general garden maintenance (light digging, cutting back shrubs, pruning overhanging branches from small trees etc)
In Spring it's usually weeding, mending growing beds, pathways and more
During the summer months there may be small projects to be completed. Plus, the “battle of the weed continues” is a constant challenge – not difficult and very rewarding when completed. Of course there is harvesting for the table too.
Autumn, is usually spent clearing beds in preparation for the winter months. Again there is no escaping the weeding, mowing and strimming.
Tasks /projects are not hard and require little or no experience, as I can show you how. What I lack in energy I make up with enthusiasm! Any skills you may have will be put to good use too.
You will have guessed; most tasks are outdoors. However should the weather be too wet there will be indoor tasks; at some stage I would like help to prepare and paint the shutters and perhaps some indoor painting.
Plans can change, especially in the garden, so it's useful if helpers are flexible regarding the type of projects available.

ACCOMMODATION
There is a double bedroom available and the use of your own separate bathroom in my small cottage-style home. Plus there is plenty of storage for baggage and bikes should you be cycling. If you have a car or motorbike there is ample parking. Clothes-washing facilities and materials are provided- with outside drying whenever possible. Of course all meals are included.

* Its important to know I am unable to accommodate singles or people with children or pets.

DURATION
Ideally stays are between 5 to 10 days- in some cases this could be a little longer.

HOURS
Tasks are carried out mostly in the mornings and work out at about 24 hours a week each.
Afternoons are usually free to explore the area or simply relax.

MEALS
Dietary requirements can be catered for, although I would struggle to provide Vegan dishes. Breakfast is a help yourself affair from what is available. Perhaps cereal, toast, local honey or confiture/jams, juice, fresh fruit or yoghurt etc. Lunch is a simple meal, hopefully eaten in the garden! The main meal of the day is in the evening; relaxed with good food, accompanied by a glass of wine. Help clearing the kitchen after meals is encouraged and very much appreciated (there is an electric dishwasher to assist).

LOCATION
Nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, just a 6 minute stroll from the centre of the pretty village of Seix (pronounced "sex").
The village is built on the banks of two picturesque rivers and there are lovely walks, waterfalls which can be reached, with lakes and rivers nearby. There are opportunities for fishing, (basic kit available or can be hired in the village) Plus there are picnic areas and places to swim and cool off in summer. We are surrounded by mountains along with some easier accessible walks. The area is noted for historical routes, prehistoric caves, fishing, walking and cycling (bike hire in the village) and more. There is also a Kayaking centre in the village.
This is certainly an opportunity to enjoy what we have always regarded as one of the most beautiful, unspoiled (perhaps even hidden) parts of France.

Unlike some villages here in the Ariege, Seix has a host of amenities visitors may need during their stay. (See Seix/Ariege web site and tourist information)
The village is typically "Ariegeois"- in other words it has a laid back ambiance. So if it’s a bustling town and night life you need- this is not the place for you. On the other hand, for those who want to forget work, study or city life, this is a wonderful place to be.
I can collect you from St Girons which is our nearest town- 20/25 min from our home by car. We are approximately one hour from Foix. Public transport (bus or train) is available to St Girons from Toulouse.

Over the years we have had many wonderful Helpers to stay, who have all created lasting memories and friendships. Each couple has made valuable contributions to the development of our land & garden- their legacy to us!
Thanks to them the garden is now well established and most of the heavier tasks have been completed.

We were HelpXers ourselves, so have always appreciated the need to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. In return for your help there is good food, a comfortable bed, hopefully good weather, and plenty of time to relax.
Should you be interested in coming to help do read the reviews below and make contact. I am usually able to reply within 24 hours.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Keep safe
