Ariege, SW France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees; should you be travelling our way please read on......

Keith and I took early retirement from our careers in the UK to live Keithís dream here in the beautiful Ariege; we certainly did live the dream together and shared a wonderful life. Keith lost his battle with cancer last year so more than ever I need help.

TASKS
I need two pairs of willing hands; a mature minded, sociable couple; partners or two friends who are prepared to share a bedroom with a double bed. It would help if you are able to be flexible regarding the type of tasks you tackle. The "battle of the weeds" is always on the agenda as is general garden maintenance and clearing; you do NOT need to have experience, as I can show you how. This year there may be some painting too. Tasks are mostly outdoors -indoors if the weather is inclement. September - November in the garden is is clear up time - preparing for the winter.

ACCOMMODATION
I have a double bedroom available and your own separate bathroom in my small cottage style home. There is storage for baggage and bikes should you be cycling and plenty of parking if you have a car or motorbike. I provide washing facilities and materials for washing clothes - with outside drying whenever possible. Of course all meals are included.
* Its important to know I am unable to accommodate singles or people with children or pets.

DATES
At the moment the diary is mostly committed for July to September. However, it may still be worth an email in case there is a cancellation - plans often do change.
Ideally a stay is between 5 to 10 days. Shorter stays are possible if you are in the area.

HOURS
Approximately 24 hours a week each, tasks are mostly carried out during the mornings.Afternoons are usually free to explore the area or simply relax. If you are staying longer than 6 days then you will also have a full day off to sitesee or relax.

MEALS
Dietary requirements can be catered for, although I would struggle to provide Vegan dishes. Breakfast is always a help yourself affair from what is available (healthy options always on hand). Lunch is a simple meal, hopefully eaten in the garden! The main meal of the day is in the evening; relaxed with good food, accompanied by a glass of local wine. Help clearing the kitchen after meals is encouraged (there is an electric dishwasher to assist).

LOCATION
Nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, just a 6 minute stroll from the centre of the pretty village of Seix (pronounced "sex"). The village is built on the banks of two picturesque rivers and there are lovely walks, waterfalls, lakes and rivers nearby with opportunities for fishing, (basic kit available or can be hired in the village) Plus there are picnic areas and places to swim and cool off in summer. We are surrounded by mountains along with some easier accessible climbs/walks. The area is noted for historical routes, prehistoric caves, fishing, walking and cycling (bike hire in the village) and more. There is also a Kayaking centre in the village.
This is certainly an opportunity to enjoy, what we have always regarded as one of the most beautiful, unspoiled parts of France.

Unlike some villages here, Seix has a host of amenities visitors may need during their stay. (See Seix/Ariege web site and tourist information)
The village is typically "Ariegeois"- in other words it has a laid back ambiance. So if itís a bustling town and night life you need- this is not the place for you. On the other hand, for those who want to forget work, study or city life, this is a wonderful place to be.
I can collect you from St Girons which is our nearest town- 25 min by car. We are approximately one hour from Foix, and 1.30 hours by car from Toulouse or 2 hrs by train.

Over the years we have had many wonderful helpers here, who have all created lasting memories and friendships. Each couple has made valuable contributions to the development of our land and garden- their legacy to us! Thanks to them the garden is now well established and most of the heavier tasks have been completed.

Having been HelpXers ourselves we always appreciated the need to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
In return for your help there is good food, a comfortable bed, hopefully good weather, and plenty of time to relax.
Should you be interested in coming to help do read the reviews below and make contact. I will try to reply within 24 hours.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Peta
