Conservation of Native Irish Black Honeybee.
Production of queen bees and honey.
This Honey Farm is set in the idyllic Galtee Vee Valley, in County Tipperary in the Southern part of Ireland. We are halfway between Cahir and Mitchelstown.
We are looking for helpers ASAP!
We are a small family run business. Our farm is very homely, friendly and welcoming, set on the edge of the beautiful Glengarra Wood. We the hosts live onsite. We have 2 dogs and a cat also. We speak a few words of the Irish language daily, a lovely opportunity to learn a new language.
We work in conserving the Native Irish Black Bee, and producing beeswax candles, queen bees and honey. We have won many awards for our honey. We also lecture in Beekeeping.
We are looking for helper who have skills in carpentry or general DIY. YOU WILL NOT BE WORKING WITH THE BEES, but you will see bees flying around.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Improvements to the mobile home - lining one of the bedrooms with hardboard, covering the floor with vinyl lino, painting, and general renovation
Filling a skip with waste materials from our recent passive house build
Putting up polytunnel
Setting up potting area for seedlings of bee friendly plants and for other beneficial insects
Washing and tidying of equipment
Labelling of jars
Tidying of sheds

General tidying around the farm
If you are a couple, some help supervising the children 3 afternoons would be very helpful.
Candidates must be:
Competent with DIY
Have some experience working with tools
Capable of working with light building materials
Be able to work on own initiative
Enthusiastic about conservation, nature and wildlife
Enjoy being part of a team :)
The work is physical but not strenuous.
Hours are weekdays from 9.30am to 2.30pm
Or else 9.30 to 5.30 three days per week
Your food will be provided, however we do not cook the meals. This helps accommodate those with special dietary needs.
Bicycles provided, but if transport is needed to the local town, we can help with this.
The local area is very picturesque and popular with hikers and mountain cyclists. There are red squirrels and deer in the woods beside us, as well as many birds of prey and smaller garden birds.
Smoking is permitted.
Accommodation is in our mobile home on site. There is electricity, cooking facilities, washing machine, shower and bathroom with flush toilet, internet. Central heating from wood pellet stove. A double bed is provided, so we can accommodate 1 person or a couple. Part of your duties will include improvements on the mobile home, and its general upkeep.
The mobile home is a bit rundown but is warm and cosy.
Burncourt Village is 3km away. Mitchelstown is 18km away. Cahir is 18km away. Both Cahir and Mitchelstown have a bus service to Dublin. Cork city is 40 minutes away, Limerick city is 1 hour away. We are 2 hours from Dublin. Our local community centre has evening classes and the pubs in Mitchelstown have music regularly.
