We are a non profit organization that rescues horses and we rehome and retire horses.

We have a 1000 hectare land, we are in the heart of bush field, IT is only my wife and I on the farm, we have sheep, goats, geese, pigs, cats, chickens and tame ostrich.

Please consider carefully if you are a good fit for our farm. While we are happy to train volunteers on what needs to be done we need volunteers to exercise some common sense and caution. You need to be conscientious - always be sure doors and gates are closed and ecured behind you.
We are not only looking for people who know horses but ladies who love animals and can help with admin and fund raising

Horse Riding – when possible (when we have space, when you are available, etc) we will invite you to join us on our rides. If you have plenty of experience with, and are safe around horses, we may well invite you to help with training our green horses and with guiding trails. If you have experience with horses and we let you work with the horses,

Area – Bonnievale is a lovely wine farm village situated 2hrs from Cape Town. long days of soaking up sun on the , or enjoy visiting one of our many wildlife and game parks within a couple of hour’s drive.
Loads of outdoor activities, from day hiking, to enjoying the local sports scene. Being close to Robertson and Swellendam , there is plenty of shopping opportunities, as are a few lovely malls in Worcester and Cape Town.
There are plenty of wine tasting farms around us.

Preferably we woul like volunteers to stay 1month at a time if possible

Your Duties
Helping with feeding horses and grooming horses. Help with projects around the farm, and basic maintenance. We’ll arrange for one or two days completely off a week. Depending on the situation, some weeks may be 1 day only. If you have Horse Riding experience, we will also ask for a little extra help with training and feeding.

We have realized that you need to know that although there will be plenty of horse interaction and riding this opportunity is not only horse riding, but does focus mainly on horses and on the whole Sanctuary and helping us grow awareness.

We offer

Accommodation
A 2 bed converted barn, shared with another (same sex) volunteer.
We do live a rustic, simple sort of life.

Food
We will provide you with a main meal for dinner (this is the main meal of the day, Vegetarians will be catered for with vegetables, however any specialty foods you require, will be at your expense. Please do not be fussy, as we do not cater for specialized diets.
But breakfast and lunch you buy and prepare yourself in the kitchen and most dinners are shared with the family. you are responsible for cleaning up your own accommodation. We will make sure you get to the shops to replenish your supplies. We will take you to see the area and take you on trips, we will also take you wine tasting and site seeing.

Our Internet
Internet access in South Africa is generally quite expensive, therefore we do not give unlimited wifi access to our volunteers. We will be able to assist you to keep in contact (whatsapp or facebook messenger, but NOT skype) with your family the first week or so, thereafter you will need to buy your own data from the shops. We will be happy to show you how to access the data and navigate the complicated mobile networks of South Africa once you have bought your data from the shops. Our internet is capped internet, and if left unchecked it gets used up on social media, then we cannot reply to clients, which is what keeps a roof over our heads and food on the table. Therefore unfortunately we really cannot give wifi access to volunteers.

Extra Info
When we go out to do supply shopping, you are welcome to head out with us, or ask us to pick up things you need.

We absolutely will not tolerate drugs. If you want a beer or glass of wine thats ok.

Transport - we can take you where you need to be
