WE ARE LOOKING FOR HELP THIS SUMMER
VOLONTEER (2 WEEKS MIN) OR PAID JOBS (2 MONTHS MIN. WITH A PERMIT AND INSURANCES)
EN FRANÇIAS PLUS BAS
We are a small tourism venue comprising of a jam kitchen, cafe, retail store and accommodation facilities. We grow our own apples, red currents, strawberries and blackberries. We also have a small chicken coup and a herb and vegetable garden. These ingredients are used in our Kitchen and Cafe. Our products include Preserves, jam, syrups and special desserts available only in our Cafe.
Our Summer trade is between May 1st - October 31rd. This is when our Cafe and Retail store are open for our very short but very busy Summer trade. Spring (May and June) is preparing for Summer and Fall (September and October) is cleaning up after Summer. We do NOT host volunteers throughout Winter (November - April) as everything closes and we disappear down south for our own volunteer experience - as volunteers!
We have had this business for 7 years and there are always projects to do!! We are always expanding and dipping into new ventures. This Spring we may open for weekend trade - it would depend on how many tourists we see in town. Fall is becoming busier each year for Christmas market orders. We are also looking into having a Jam factory if our business continues to grow like this!
We have Paid employees and family members that return each season to work with us. They work in our Cafe, Retail store, Kitchen and Lodge. Their duties include selling, cashiering, answering the phone, customer service, hosting, tour guiding, bookings, serving, coffee, cooking, food preparing, orders, labelling, delivering and housekeeping.
Our Volunteers fill in the gaps and help our team out. Duties could include;
* Moping Floors
* DIY jobs
* Social media
* Instagram account
* Lunch preparation for fellow volunteers and staff
* Picking a handful of fruit, vegetables or herbs from our garden for our Chef
The island is very beautiful and quiet at night. This place is great for star gazers, photographers, bloggers, solo travellers, french beginners and explorers. We need any and all help you can give!! There are always projects you can do.
We are very flexible with the hours and number of days you want to work.
IE. 5 hours/ 5 days or 3 hours/ 7 days or 6 hours/ 4days a week.
Its up to you - what kind of adventure you would like to have here? and what kind of skills/ help you can give?
For example our Chef has requested a Dishwasher that can work 2-3 hours 4 days a week and our Jamtender has requested can we find a builder who can help him build a walk in closet for a few days. ..
There are a few options for accommodation, depending on guest bookings and what you would prefer. You can stay in the:
* Barn (that has been converted into guest lodging)
* Volunteer Cabin (No running water), Outdoor Bathroom, has Electricity and full access to WIFI
* Your own RV, Motorhome, Van or Tent. There is a lot of space on our land to bring your own stuff, park it and set it up.
Our future idea is to rent out a local home for our volunteers and staff. But this is not currently in the pipeline.
You will be provided 2 meals a day. We can share each other's travel stories and cultures. Each Winter i travel to new places. I am fluent in both English and French. I understand what it's like being a volunteer, as I do it myself.
We can immerse you into the French - Canadian Culture - language, culture, food, recèpes, history.
We can teach you about healthy and vegan preserves - jams and syrups
You can attend Private Jam making lessons by your Host
We can give you a local tour of Orleans
We can give you a local social night tour of Quebec City
We can give you a lift to Quebec City when we go there for business, usually once a week
We have a free bike for you to use to get around the island
Biking is very popular on the island in the summer. You can use our bikes to discover and enjoy at your own pace everything the island has to offer. You can visit the many artisan shops or have an ice cream at the famous chocolaterie.
The mini island bus can take you to downtown Old Quebec city. It is only a 15 minute drive to the Montmorency Waterfalls, or 25 minute drive to the beautiful castle Chateau Frontenac.
Old Quebec city is filled with entertainment and activities, the 2 famous festivals are the summer festival (music concerts) and the New France festival where everyone dresses up like they used to 400 years ago. The best way to visit Old Quebec is really by foot. Everything is walking distance from the castle: you will get to enjoy the many shops, cafés, restaurants, museums, etc. and street performing artists.
