Greetings from sunny California. For the foreseeable future my plan is to remain in the Bay Area as I prepare my sailboat for leaving on a major voyage. This will take a year or 2, so there will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer as well as sail!
The plan is to remove the diesel engine, replacing it with an electric motor as well as install solar panels; a DUO GEN, which produces electricity as a wind generator and while sailing generates electricity from smaller blades turning in the water. The final phase we will be installing a large battery bank to store the electricity.
I also need help with starting a small garden onboard. So I can grow several herbs as well as a few vegetables.

There is a lot of basic maintenance that needs to be done and requires little to no previous experience. Such as sanding, painting, finishing and staining wood using an all natural formula. Of course there are many other projects that need to be done requiring little skill. Contact me for what is on the latest list.
Would love help setting up a website, as well as a blog!

For other projects & maintenance, it would be great if you had some basic carpentry, plumbing or electrical skills.

Keeping the boat clean and organized takes a little bit of time every day. My beautiful wooden sailboat was built in Germany in 1962. As you can see from the photos the the craftsmanship throughout my boat is incredible, as well as being in excellent shape. Very comfortable to live in.

The most important thing I need is people that are enthusiastic. That goes a long way...

I teach sailing, so there can be an opportunity to learn basic sailing during your stay.

In warmer weather, you can sleep on a Hammock outside.

The Bay Area is an amazing place! So much to explore! Lots of hiking and backpacking possibilities, swimming and a lot more. The Muir Woods Redwood Forest is only 10 miles (16 Kilometers) away. There are all kinds of activities, outdoor concerts, festivals, great restaurants, and a nice bar scene as well as multiple awesome coffee house to check out.

Volunteers help 20-25 hours/week in exchange for room and board. We appreciate those that stay at least a week but hope you can stay a month or longer. If you have questions please contact me.

Hope to hear from you,
Skipper Jim
