After the holiday season, our focus will turn back toward home and yard improvements, so if you are interested in visiting this area in 2019, feel free to contact us. The winter is beautiful here too as the shape of these ancient mountains are more defined and long range “winter” views come into play after the trees drop their leaves. In my opinion, hiking on sunny winter days is a joy!

In exchange for about 15-20 hrs a week helping with projects, you will enjoy a private bedroom (new full-sized bed), shared bath, and house/kitchen/laundry privileges. Accommodations are modest and comfortable. We do not provide meals per se but our kitchen is open for your use and the possibility of shared meals is a definite possibility.

This workstay in Black Mountain/Asheville is ideal for 1 person or a couple seeking to enjoy the beautiful mountains of western NC while not having to “rough it” too much.

Black Mountain is a quaint town where many things are within 10-20 min walking distance (or 5 min drive) such as Lake Tomahawk with an easy scenic walking trail. In town are boutique gift shops, craft breweries, great local farm-to-table restaurants, and independent coffee shops, all literally under a mile from our house. Within a 10-mile range are many trails for hiking and biking, even zip-lining, plus nearby kayaking and tubing. The Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic drive with many overlooks and trailheads, is very close.

Black Mountain is located 10 miles East of Asheville, NC. Asheville is reknown for fresh local food, craft beer, art, yoga and music in a small town surrounded by the scenic mountains. If you don’t have a car, daily bus service from Black Mountain to Asheville Is available for only $1.00! Bus stop is 2 blocks away. We do go to Asheville quite often, almost every day, so arranging transportation with us is no problem either.

We are new to HelpX so we would like our work stays to be in the 2 week range, but will consider longer stays if all goes well.
