In northern Spain, on the CAMINO DE SANTIAGO, we are running an albergue for pilgrims, for the third year.
It is located right ón the Camino Primitivo, so all pilgrims will pass here on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
If you want to be a part of a wonderful Camino-experience: please read on...
If you decide to apply for one of the jobs, be clear in how we can all benefit from your talent(s).
We really love completed profiles with picture(s). Do not forget to include your (from-until) availability.
Between beautiful mountain slopes, the albergue is situated in the heart of the small pueblo of Salas (Asturias).
We sometimes have up to 35 pelgrims staying, divided into 3 shared and 5 private rooms.
In high season, almost 100 pilgrims pass every day, after sometimes having walked for more than 2 weeks.
Some of them will stop to relax and regain their energy. We'll support them with healthy home-made food, fresh
drinks and a big smile. We will offer them a vegetarian communal diner in the evening (we have great reviews!!)
and an energizing breakfast in the morning. Some of it is donation-based (no charge), some of it is for sale.
Our main purpose is to keep the albergue open for pilgrims, and improve it.
The house (old and creaky) is charming, it was built in 1850, and it has a great kitchen/ hang-out, three
bathrooms (hot water, with a powerful(!) spray), a small patio and a wonderful sunny&shady 500m2-terrace,
where couches, tables and chairs are sometimes placed for people to relax after a day of climbing hills.
Would you like to join us in supporting these pilgrims? You'll help 4-5 hours, 5 days a week, in exchange
for a place to stay, delicious (vegetarian) food and inspiring times with lots of new people.
Once you step into the albergue, we will surely ask you for the experience you 'd like to gét, while
staying with us. And we'll do our best to provide.
As for you personally, we'd like you to have a big, beautiful and open heart, flexibility and a learning
mentality, at least 25 years of age, and preferably having a sense of what the Camino de Santiago is.
If all works out well, we'd be happy to have you for a period of 4 weeks (to begin with).
Starting mid-June, all the way through to end October:
We'd love to have 2-3 people at the same time, who want to help us taking turns with:
- the morning shift: making/ serving our delicious breakfast (all homemade: pancakes with fruit, yoghurt
with granola, etc.) and preparing the albergue for new arrivals
- the afternoon shift: incheck / registering new pilgrim-arrivals, etc.
- the evening shift: serving dinner and preparing breakfast
PLUS, we are always improving the albergue:
- Can you draw tulips on the walls of the albergue: beautiful!
- Are you a handy wo(man), for short technical projects: sweet! (painting, woodwork, drilling, electricity, etc.).
- Are you a social media wizard? Please come.. :-)
- Do you love cooking? Come and help us make our snacks, like energy bars, bocadillos, smoothies, etc.
PLEASE: If you decide to apply for one of the jobs, be clear in how we can all benefit from your talent(s).
We really love completed profiles with picture(s). Do not forget to include your availability.
ABOUT OUR VISION:
The vision that we are working towards is a HAPPY OASIS, where pilgrims and volunteers come together to:
- CONNECT to (new) friends,
- RECHARGE from a long day of walking, with healthy and homemade food and drinks, and
- INSPIRE and be INSPIRED, to get the most out of the journey: the Camino de Santiago is a road of reflection.
It can have a profound impact on a person’s life. In the albergue we 'd like to support that process (in a
very light-hearted way) and we are setting up various forms to do so: games, riddles, thought-provoking
questions, sessions of meditation/ yoga/ singing bowls, massage, books and music.
Obviously, volunteers are invited (no obligation).
So, why not come along on the adventure and discover your own Camino in life… Please send us your mail.
ABOUT THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO:
The Camino attracts more than 200.000 people annually, from all over the world. And you can meet them all!!
In their backpacks they not only carry 8-10 kg of gear, but also 50-80 kg of stories, experiences. It is interesting.
There is so much variety in each day, that you'll get to learn things you never knew, about hospitality, life and you.
PLEASE do not send us messages directly. Although we love your enthusiasm about our project, we prefer to
communicate through Help-X. Have your profile completed.
