Our retreat centre is a flourishing sanctuary where we celebrate life, nurture the human spirit and encourage personal responsibility through stewardship of the natural environment. We provide opportunities for the deepening of well-being through connection with self, community and nature, and a safe haven for native flora and fauna. We offer this sanctuary for the benefit of generations to come. This is a purpose-built retreat centre sitting on 344 hectares of native bush in the Coromandel Peninsula of the North Island of New Zealand. We host a variety of community events and a program of retreats and residential courses. Over the last 20 years this has included Insight Meditation retreats, Yoga retreats, Dances of Universal Peace gatherings, personal and professional development groups, seasonal celebrations and women’s gatherings.

Volunteers and Service Teams are a vital part of the running of this place.

We welcome the energy, enthusiasm and contribution of volunteers and wwoofers. In return we offer a volunteer experience in an amazing place with very special energy. You will be involved in whatever retreats or projects we are currently working on and become part of our centre for your stay. During retreats volunteers become part of the Service Team, work to a rostered schedule, and enjoy the chef cooked meals. On some retreats there is the added bonus of being able to sit in on sessions – this is especially so during meditation retreats. Volunteers are also invited to join our regular Sangha (weekly community meditation event).

Between retreats we are more relaxed, and after the work’s done there is lots of time to enjoy the sanctuary of this place. There is plenty of opportunity for reflecting, walking the Labyrinth, tramping in the bush, swimming in the stream, discovering the waterfalls or staying overnight in one of the remote huts. And don’t forget an evening walk up the valley to check out the glow-worms! We are only 10 minutes drive from spectacular beaches, including famous Hot Water beach and Cathedral Cove.

Volunteers help under the guidance of a staff member or experienced volunteer, in the kitchen, undertake housekeeping, work on further developing the permaculture garden, on maintenance projects or on the land. Perhaps you would like to offer your skills in kitchen duties, carpentry, roofing, painting, plumbing, firewood splitting, general handy-person, gardening, weed and predator control, track trimming, etc!

Between retreats volunteers cook for themselves, we supply the food. Our kitchen is vegetarian. We are off the grid so our power is solar – conservation of resources is very important. We do have cell phone reception – some providers are better than others but worst case scenario is that you’ll need to walk up the driveway to get reception. There is free internet access at the local library library.

Every volunteer stay begins with a 4-day mutual trial period when you get to know us and we get to know you, and we see if that works. Many international volunteers identify our place as their “home” in New Zealand and return, often bringing friends or family with them. We love welcoming our volunteers back, and they do come back again and again.

Please visit our website ('web' link above) and go to 'Get Involved ' tab. Go to the 'wwoofers and volunteers' heading ('web2' link above) to fill out an application form. We reply promptly!

Our retreat centre is drug, smoke and alcohol free.
