The Freevolution is the gift economy movement; inspiring to be the change that we need. Free workshops for permaculture, sustainability, surfing, yoga, meditation and more are the things we publicy offer in this location.

The purpose of this main branch here though is to lead the growth of the gift economy through publicity in any form. We are also living by example with zero-waste, permaculture, minimalism, self-actualisation and obviously the gift economy offerings mentioned before.

A true gift economy is when we not exchange goods and services, but instead give them away without expectation of return. You can find it in healthy families, friendships, volunteers, tribes and communities and we now bring it to a global scale. In the transition that’s financed on each members own behalf, but once the gift economy grows and enough people join the chain, you’ll be able to get things for free as well, minimising your expenses, maximising your happiness. Being the change we wanna see in the world.

The result is a society where greed and envy becomes obsolete, meaning we don’t have to exploit each other or nature anymore. Sustainability is going to solve itself, war over resources is going to end and happiness becomes the status quo. Finally no 9-5 slavery anymore!

I'm Dan, from germany, with the mission of doing something good for myself, the planet, future generations and you! I don't get paid or make money with this, but I believe in a gift economy transitioning into a future where money isn't neccessary anymore, making this planet a better place.

I used to work in a big watersports center for about 10 years, travelling a lot in the off-season and seeing the impact we have on our planet. I'm sick of our capitalistic economy and how our society pulls us into deep unhappiness without a positive outlook for future generations. I’ve always battled with depression and social anxiety in this never-ending fight to be and stay valuable in a society where you only gain value through success. I don't see a future in consumerism, capitalism and greed for me or anyone else. So I decided to get up and do something, leading by example into a gift economy, making life easier for me as well as contributing real value to this world. I have lots of experience in fitness, watersports, meditation, breathwork and nutrition which I'd like to share because it can help other people to a happier life as well.

I'm looking for volunteers and co-hosts willing to help with the promotion of a gift economy. And I’ll be honest at this point: Not for people that want to “volunteer” for their own profit or in exchange for a holiday. If you want to contribute to this place and really volunteer, I’m happy to share what I have with you: Food, accomodation, knowledge, experience and happiness.

Next to routine things like shopping or cooking for ourselves, you’d make sure regular classes in permaculture, surfing, yoga and meditation (or something else you're keen on facilitating) run smoothly. You're also welcome to help in the garden and with building structures. The main skill you should bring would be something that can help this movement grow in any way. Examples for this involve giving away street food or other products for promotion as well as facilitating your own workshops, services, etc. Or stuff like spreading information on the web in social media, youtube, etc. as well as on the streets with leaflets, posters, brochures, etc. Even programming skills, webdesign or video editing are helpful skills - anything as long as you’re self-motivated!

Lots to do as you can see, but very good work as well with motivated and positive people! If you don't have much time (less than 3 weeks), you're welcome to join one of the free offerings and stay for one or two days as a visitor too!! :)

Because of the complex nature of this project, it only makes sense to involve on-site volunteers for 3 weeks or longer. In that time you're welcome to experience all the classes as there'll be plenty of free time as well.

After a 2-day get-to-know we can both decide how to continue from there, so no pressure and lots of flexibility. It's super important to have good vibes in between the crew, so everyone can be themselves - this is a gift economy, not a work contract. Everything you do here is truly voluntarily, not based on exchange :)

Accomodation is simple and outdoors in tents pitched on a thick layer of straw as a mattress. Please bring bedding yourself if you can or let me know so I can arrange something. I'm living on the campsite myself in a van, sharing the outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower and compost toilet with you and the guests. So you need to be ok with fulltime outdoor living even when the weather gets hot, cold or rainy. I usually cook for and with the volunteers together, also because I prefer to have only plantbased food on-site for health and environmental reasons. You need to bring 100% biodegradable soap for the shower and biodegradable toothpaste.

The site is quite remote, so if you have your own transport or don't mind riding one of my bikes for a bit it'll surely be to your enjoyment. I also do trips to the shops and the beach to go surfing once or twice a week and of course you're welcome to join in. The very beautiful sea here is 25min by car, about an hour by bike. The next town (Aljezur) is half the trip. Phone reception is good if you walk 5min up the hill and for internet you can use the unlimited wifi. The place is offered by the Shambala meditation retreat, which doesn't operate in the gift economy, but kindly allows us to stay here and therewith supports the Freevolution Movement in it's founding stages.

+ be open-minded
+ be learn-willing
+ bring lots of smiles :)

- no meat or fish
- no alcohol, no cigarette butts
- no plastic-packaged food or other trash

You can always help from anywhere if the description moved something in you and you would like to be part of this great change! Also you’re always welcome to come by and take part in the free workshops as a guest!

If you're interested now, go and google the Freevolution Movement to find out more about the project.
