Our meditation center is part of an international spiritual community dedicated to achieving world peace through following the Buddhist path. Our community consists of residents people who live onsite here, including ordained monks and nuns and others who live in the local area. You will find a warm, friendly community here, who strives to exemplify Buddhist practice through public service. This includes providing everyone, regardless of background, experience or belief, the opportunity to learn how to achieve inner peace and happiness through meditation.
Our working visitor program is a great way to experience life at a Buddhist retreat center, learn about Buddhism & meditation, and put your compassion and love for others into action. In exchange for volunteering, working visitors receive accommodation and three vegetarian meals a day. You stay in our dormitories; please bring your own sleeping bag & towel. Bathrooms are shared. All meals are vegetarian; breakfast is self-serve and lunch and dinner are community vegetarian buffets. There are usually vegan options for all meals as well.
Normally, these opportunities last for a duration of one week. Volunteer hours are Monday-Friday 9am-4pm with lunch and breaks. We are flexible with the start and end day. There is the opportunity to stay for more than one week, it depends if it working for both parties.
The jobs at our center vary depending on season and skills assisting with meal preparation and cleanup, light housecleaning, light construction, accommodations preparation and housekeeping, office work, and light landscaping and garden work, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance.
Our meditation center is nestled behind Beacon Hill in northern Arizona and sits on 20 acres of land located just 50 minutes from the Grand Canyon. It is adjacent to the Kaibab National Forest known for its aromatic Ponderosa pine trees.
Along with creating a beautiful meditation room, we are also updating different parts of the hotel to better serve our needs. Once open to the public, the retreat center will host many programs throughout the year to appeal to a range of students and guests.
Working visitors have the opportunity to receive free meditation classes and teachings throughout the week and weekends. While the type and frequency of meditations and teachings varies throughout the season, generally there is a class happening at least once a week.
