We are a remote beautiful large high country Sheep and Beef station (farm) located in the North Canterbury region. Jim and I run the farm with two young male shepherds who live on the property full time. The Lakes Station is home to four large lakes with the Hurunui River running through the middle of the property, there are large areas of native bush, creating the opportunity for you to participate in plenty of outdoor activities in your free time, including hiking, kayaking and fishing.

If you were to stay here your accommodation is in a separate, self-contained unit attached to our farm quarters, which is situated right on the lake. The accommodation is equipped with a small kitchenette and lounge, a queen bed and a bathroom. You would be supplied with food for breakfast and lunch, which you would prepare in your kitchen and sharing an evening meal with our family and farm workers, which would be meat from our farm and vegetables from the large vegetable garden.

4-6 hours help asked of you would be mostly physical, helping Jim and workers on the farm and Sarah in the garden and with household duties maybe some cooking if you are keen etc. There will be occasions you will have to work independently and times when you will be part of the team.

There is no cell phone coverage where we are and very limited Internet; the Internet however can be used for special circumstances including booking flights, communication with family etc. This we believe is all part of the experience of being up here. The nearest town is an hourís drive from the farm up a shingle road so we are very remote. The lakes station we believe is a special place where you get to experience life in New Zealandís beautiful high country.

Anyone who likes to have a laugh, can work hard, is practical, non-smoking and has good manners would be welcome here. We love to have friends to stay and enjoy meeting enthusiastic hard working people who are keen to learn and share some of our unique kiwi farming culture.
