We are renovating a house in France in the Lot department. Our two hectares is being converted into flower garden, vegetable garden, woodland area etc. We have two horses, two cats and lots of chickens. In the summer we are fairly self-sufficient. The weather is glorious and we love the relaxed attitudes here. There is much to do and it's impossible to list exact details so I have described the general projects below.
We are completely swamped with renovation work and really need some help with the vegetable garden and creating the flower garden. We are especially interested in connecting with people that have horticultural knowledge so that we can also improve our knowledge.
* help develop the vegetable garden
* develop the flower garden.
* general maintenance - mowing, weeding, watering, sowing etc.
* September 2019 - we need to plan winter and spring crops
COMPLETING THE HOUSE & CARPENTRY
Are you a carpenter or good DIYer? Lots of jobs including:
* help lay a large wooden floor
* build cupboards
* tile bathrooms
* painting internal and external (shutters and doors)
* some furniture maintenance, renovation etc
* help build the chicken palace, a project that keeps being postponed but is important before winter.
GENERAL TIDYING & CLEARING
* general clearing and sorting, some heavyish lifting as I can't do it by myself
* shifting furniture into the house from the barn
A NEW IDEA: Creating a Market Garden
This may come to naught but we have a one hectare (south) field bordered by a small stream. The soil here is very good and we believethat this field is much less stony than the west field. I was starting to wonder wether to find a partner to develop the area as a small market garden. If you have any ideas do drop me an email.
Our house is not finished, although we are now sleeping in it downstairs, currently we cook in the 'summer kitchen' which is on one of the barns. You can stay in a) the caravan, b) one of the rooms in the house - dry but undecorated, c) we can accomodate a camper van or similar if that is your preference.
Everything is negotiable. We really would prefer someone looking for a longer stay - at least a month and even better if more; What we did with out first helper we do a trial two weeks and continued after that as we were all happy.
We would also love someone that is interested in food and drink.
We welcome one person or a couple, possibly a dog if it's OK with cats and chickens, possibly a horse. Any age, we love people with experience and stories to tell so that usually means 30 plus, but we are open to all ideas. We are omniverous but don't eat meat that often so are very happy being vegetarian.
