We are building a green eco home on Oahu from containers with reusable materials and trying to create a self-sustainable property.

My wife and I live in Honolulu currently but the new green home is being built in Waianae (west side of Oahu). The property in Waianae is on a hillside with a 30 to 40 degree slope with an amazing view of ocean and green mountain valleys like old Hawaii.

A short walk to the beach ,shopping center, grocery store, restaurants . The grocery store, bank, and post office are conveniently located only six blocks from the property. Waianae shopping center is one mile from the property where we have our motorhome parked.

We are looking for someone easy going drama-free intelligent and quick learning along with fun loving persons to have fun doing farming, gardening, general handyman work as well as making a home out of three 40ft containers .
There is also opportunity to learn more advanced skills like installing water piping, electrical wire , installation of doors and windows , welding, off grid solar system, solar water heating and some other fun projects such as hydroponics to grow what you eat.

The chance to learn how to live aloha. become independent; grow and maintain many types of fruit trees, and plants, expand any current handyman skills, as well as learn some new labor skills and advanced handyman skills, hydroponics to grow what you like to eat, love where you live and the people around you, learn about solar collection of energy and calculations of energy use - different ways of heating water with the sun and cooling the house with the earth.
We are currently in experimental stages to evaluate the most successful way to achieve non-polluting living.

* Minimum 1 month stay
* Easy going & eagerness to learn
* Holding proper US visa type for educational & cultural exchange program.

For exchange of 25h (morning or afternoon shift - you pick) of work per week (5 hours a day). Friday and Monday will be your day off.
We supply accommodation and food.

We have a fully equipped 26 ft- motorhome to accommodate 3 people at a time, equipped with stove, oven, sink with filter water, refrigerator, shower, toilet, 2 sleeping beds (twin size), air conditioner, and a tub with an amazing view at the top of the hill. The view from the top of the hill is beautiful especially during sunset because we are on the west side. We also have a hammocks that you can use if you like to sleep outdoors. The WiFi is on the property. The beach is just eight blocks away!

Until we are more sustainable from what we have on the property we will make a Costco run once a week. Things like M&M, and ice cream trees take time to grow.

Food will be provided, the helpers get to pick out what they would like to eat for the week. All eating preferences are welcome.

Swimming, surfing, snorkeling, sunbathing, and the beach has a lifeguard on duty as well. There are many hikes around the area. The Disney resort is only a fifty-minute bus ride away in Kapolei. Monthly bus passes are $70 and day passes are $5.50.

If you are coming from where a U.S. visa is required, please make sure it's proper visa type to participate our educational and cultural exchange program. Although you may think that this is a volunteer/non-paid program and you don't need a visa to work, but it's still considered as work as you would get compensation in return (shelter & food).
