This is a 20 acre Equine Sanctuary with horses ranging in age from newborns to 36 years old. While the majority of our horses are wild Mustangs, we have 20+ “sanctuary” horses as well. These horses all suffer some sort of ailment, whether that be that they are blind or lame or ave something else going on. More than 60 of our horses have been saved from slaughter and we work diligently to find them all loving forever homes. In addition to the horses we have one resident donkey and 3 barn cats. As we are a sanctuary you will see a variety of volunteers daily. This includes children, individuals with special needs and disabilities, and the elderly.
As a “Ranch Hand” you will be responsible for feeding, watering, and Providing basic care for the horses such as pickin their pens as needed and administering medication. In addition, you will be responsible for basic ranch maintenance during your shift. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping the office and barn, cleanup the countertops, raking up loose hay, potential trackor work if approved, and keeping a cleanly overall appearance. Shifts run 4-5 hours at a time, once in the morning and once in the evening, 7 days a week. You will have 7 shifts to complete per week with a flexible schedule and are expected to work a maximum of 25 hours per week. We will provide you with all of the food staples such as beans, rice, pasta, canned food, spices, and meals on occasion. You will have access to a trailer with a queen size bed, shower, kitchen sink, 4 burner gas stove, oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, table with seating and lots of storage. There is a porta-potty located right outside the trailers as well. Located about 10 feet from your trailer is our barn and office. You are welcome to store anything extra in the barn during your stay and use the office as you please. For your conscience you can find a toaster over, microwave, two fridge and freezers, a coffee pot, one burner electric stove, blender and latte machine in the office. Please note this is a public area indented for our volunteers as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone with an interest in horses, community service, or camping. Please note that You do not need any horse experience to come work with us, we love teaching you everything you’ll need to know. We do require a minimum stay of 28 days.
We are conveniently located just 2 miles from Bend and and a minutes walk from BLM land. You can find incredible eats, killer snow and water sports, and crazy fun events all within 20 miles. We do not allow smoking near the hay or inside the office as we have had hay catch fire in the past and often have young children in the office. We are a pretty chill ranch and like to have fun, that being said the horses always come first and we must meet the daily care of our ranch before we “let loose”. While we do not encourage you to bring your dog along we are not completely opposed either. The doggo would have to be completely house trained, flawless with cats and other dogs, able to ignore horses and most of all friendly.
