A unique and quirky garden which has been open in the national Garden Scheme for over 30 years. Mill Barn is a series of delights. Along the R Darwin, in Lancashire, through the tiny secret grotto, past the suspension bridge and view of the fairy-tale tower, visitors can a stroll past folly, sculptures, lily pond, and lawns, enjoy the naturally planted flowerbeds, then enter the secret garden and through it the pathways of the wooded hillside beyond.

Your hostess is, a retired social worker, whose husband, a retired lecturer, is the gardener and a member of the National Garden Scheme. The garden is open on two weekends in June 13,14,20,21 when 300 to 400 people visit. 6 volunteers attend on each day to support the four openings.

I would appreciate the help of an assistant event organiser for two weeks from June 9 to June 23nd 2020. This is an annual event. I have accepted an application for this year 2020.

The role involves, before the events getting to know how the household works including the kitchen, taking on some easy household duties, helping to prepare the area where teas are served by putting out chairs, dead heading plants etc. Preparing the serving areas, supporting the volunteers who are making and serving food, serving lunch to the volunteers, checking the parking area and taking refreshments to people on the gate. There is a role on the day of showing people round the garden, if you happen to enjoy learning the names of the plants and wish to learn the history of the garden.

DECLUTTERING REQUEST FOR JANUARY - 14 DAYS after Jan 9th Before Jan 30th. 2021

I have been so busy last year, travelled 3 times, hosting 30 guests for my husband, that in 2019 my office has become a tip. I am also as a creative person with many projects wishing to reorganise it in the method suggested by Sheila Chandra. That is a work station with everything at arms length for each project. If you are interested please contact me. Thank you. I am in touch with a professional declutterer who would work with us.

If you come you will gain plenty of practice in speaking English, if you have a project to complete we will help you make useful contacts, and make sure you have quiet time to pursue your studies. You will enjoy an insight into the cultural role of gardens and cream teas as well as learning some of the skill and interpersonal skills required to support volunteers.

I am happy to introduce you to some of the classes I attend including Chinese Brush Painting, Belly dancing, Family History, Creative Writing. In your leisure time you may enjoy walking with my husband, the beautiful countryside around us and the sauna and the Jacuzzi that previous volunteers have help us build on the edge of the river.

You can borrow a bicycle to get around. Or we can take you into town to catch trains or buses to Blackpool, Manchester, Liverpool, Kendal and the lake district.

We have Wifi. You are one of the family for meals and take your turn with cooking and clearing. We have a dishwasher and a person comes to clean every two weeks. You will have a choice of a bedroom with a double bed or one with twin beds. You have the use of the downstairs shower and toilet.
