We envision a multigenerational community that nurtures its members to connect with and support each other to transform how we live in urban environments. We want to create neighbourhoods that function at a high level and are grounded in love, even when we donít all agree. We care about a successful transition to low carbon living and are a stand for all people to lead lives that are inspired, lit up and full of possibility. We believe that we can live lightly on the earth, eat great nourishing food, try out new ways of co-living, have each others backs and be life-long learners. We strive to live resilient, joyful, purposeful lives that are based on the premise that we should leave the world better than we found it. Our days are filled with action, in a space where each person has a voice and each life makes a difference surrounded by amazing conversations, laughter and love.
We are Mike and Mary-Kate. We are entrepreneurs in the Gig Economy. We want to use business as a source of impact and change to create the world that we want to live in. We started The Junction Village because we wanted our kids to grow up full of possibility, connection and a nurturing community. For the past 15 years we have been gradually creating an urban intentional community. This is a diverse community whose members create a safe, loving space for children to grow, for young people to flourish, for families to connect and for older people to be held with reverence and joy. This is a space where the neighbours are linked together and share things such as gardening spaces, child care and participate in bulk purchasing opportunities.
At the center of the Junction Village is the Heart House and the Ecoview Apartments. The house is located on a beautiful urban farm close to downtown Guelph. We have created opportunities to explore co-living for long and short term stays in any income bracket. Our family home is directly next door and community members have purchased several other houses within a short walk. There is a weekly potluck in the summer months on Wednesday nights paired with a community shared agriculture (CSA) drop off from our farm partners Zocalo Farms. These potlucks are an open space for community connection and where community collisions happen, working group meetings, music, movie screenings and other wonderful things. The space functions because of revenue from long term rents and short term stays such as Air BnB.
In the communal space we have backyard chickens, a pizza oven, a small co-working area, plans to install a yurt for workshops and lots of spaces to sit and connect or relax in a hammock. There is an artist studio called Unless Studios run by our resident artist.
We are looking for a catalyst, for someone to pick up the slack. We want to accelerate our impact and to do this we need someone to handle the details, manage the teams and be our right hand person.
