Hi. We can take one person from November 1st. We are located in the “garden of Ireland” in beautiful County Wicklow beside Carrig Mountain and its extensive forests. Our property of approx 50 acres is truly unique, a real one-off gem with beautiful woodland, parkland, ponds and access to the mountain from the valley. There are lots of walkways through the property, with plenty of wildlife, such as deer, foxes, badgers, pheasants and wild duck. The entire property is a Nature Reserve.

You will have your own lovely self-contained property on site with central heating, shower and modern kitchen. We are looking for people to assist with the day to day improvements, maintenance and repairs on the Reserve for 5 days a week for approx 6 hours per day. Accommodation provided, together with food, which you will cook for yourself. Unfortunately there is no WIFI. It is a really special place and offers a tranquil, peaceful and delightful environment for the right person. The nearest village, Ashford, is 3km away and WIFI is also available there. The nearest town is Wicklow and Dublin is only approx 30 minutes drive, with a direct bus every few hours each day to the city centre. There is lots to do in Wicklow cultural, sporting, sightseeing and leisure. There are quad bikes and bicycles on site for you to enjoy and fishing off the Wicklow coast, with the tourist attractions nearby in Glendalough, Laragh, Roundwood and Wicklow Mountains National Park.

The Position is to help out and assist in the nature reserve with a variety of duties, undergrowth clearance, replanting of trees, wild bulbs, looking after reserve projects, building or making paths, walls, ditches, bridges, cleaning out bat boxes, bird boxes, ponds, pruning and sculpting trees, harvesting wild fruits, building pens and fences, repairs to roads, property maintenance, caring for our gardens, woods, parkland flora and fauna and collecting data on birds and wildlife. Knowledge of construction, chainsaws, strimmers and/or carpentry or concrete use would be a real advantage. We also take in orphaned and injured wildlife, care for them and when ready, release them back into the wild. One never knows who or what will be visiting us! At present we have 2 beautiful owls to be cared for.

You should be a good communicator, responsible and trustworthy, with a deep enthusiasm and passion for wildlife, conversation, trees, nature and animals. You must be able to speak English well and work on your own initiative.

Ability to drive with a clean Licence would be most helpful as there are neighbouring reserves 15 minutes and 40 minutes away where similar work is carried out.

If this exchange position is of any interest to you please email us with your details and history of work you have done or any queries you might have. We look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for reading!

Best wishes.
