In mid August 2019 i bought 2,900m2 of land with a part renovated house and a barn in the South West of Bulgaria very close to the Macedonian border. The property is firstly to be my residence, where i can live in comfort, in permaculture ways, growing organic food to eat and share, and help me to experiencially realises true self. Secondly it will be a place where I can share the many holistic healing modalities which have helped me in my awakening journey. It will therefore also be a place to which I will sometimes invite guests on occasions, to join me in my healing sanctuary. Perhaps you will be one?
The land is set in the foothills of the surrounding mountains at approx. 900 mts above sea level, about 15 minutes walk to the nearest village (Ranentsi) passing just a few neighbours on the way. The views are beautiful, the air is fresh and clean (confirmed by litchen growing on the trees). I am 14 kms away from the nearest town - Kyustendil, and water is abundant (2 wells on the land + municipal water + rivers and lakes in surrounding area).
The old brick house, with stone cellar underneath, had been part renovated and doubled in size. The renovations are now continuing with two local friends, myself and volunteers. We've already started clearing the huge garden, made a compost toilet,a small rocket stove and a firewood store outside (using reclaimed materials). There is electricity and internet.
You can see a video of the property here before work started: https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Hxfp4EaEZeH1few8
Inside the house the renovations are progressing very well, with new and beautiful double glazed windows and doors, ceiling insulation close to being finished, bathroom walls being lined in preparation for tiling, a trench being dug in preparation to connect water supply to inside the house and a composting system for humanure from compost toilet and for vegetable scraps is now complete.
One of the rooms now has a woodstove installed and is cozy warm when we light the fire in the evenings.
I am vegetarian, moving slowly toward vegan. also trying not to smoke. No meat or fish on the premises please.
Depending upon when you come, helpers could be asked to work in the garden (clearing overgrown grass, trees, trimming branches, saving and processing firewood, clearing debri from part demolition of old house, salvaging materials, strimming, preparing beds for plants, helping build a masonry rocket mass central heating coookstove, helping with renovation work on house or barn, irrigation sytem, making cabinets for kitchen / bedroom, etc. etc.
I offer a choice of two options to stay:
20 hours work per week, meals included (food preparation not included in hours - but we share in meal prep)
10 hours work per week, meals not included (you supply your own food).
Accomodation (as of 25/9/2019) will be in your own tent, (or mine) or on a mattress on the floor of the warm bedroom.
Currently there is a temporary kitchen inside but the bathroom inside is not yet working, tiled but shower and sink awaiting fitting, There is a rocket stove outside but we can cook on the woodstove inside. There is a tap and concrete floor pan outside for washing and a compost toilet outside. By end of year the inside bathroom should be finished. See updates below to see how work is progressing.
I will be happy for you to join me in my morning meditation, and some daily kundalini yoga practice, mantra singing round the fire, and to offer holistic health consultations.
A bit more about me:
Atma started to become aware he was on a "spiritual journey" way back in 2005. Since then he has travelled extensively, including living in Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, India and now Bulgaria. Atma began a yoga teacher training in 2008, and then began researching and practicing holistic healing through nutrition, cleansing, meditaion, yoga and emotional integration. In 2012 he opened a healing retreat centre in Mexico which he ran for 5 years before moving on to France for 4.5 months where he volunteered at a yoga school working in the garden and kitchen and completing a Permaculture Design Course. He then moved to India where he stayed at an ashram for 10 months. Atma does his best to be aware of the present moment, remembering who or what he really is. To help with this he is quite often silent and/or taking time to be alone, but is passionate about sharing with others about his journey and practices which have helped him become more balanced and peaceful.
15th September 2019
I've had the pleasure of two volunteers, James and Arina staying this week. We've made a lot of progress clearing brambles, dead wood, builders rubble and more, making space around the house. We also are a lot of blackberries as we cleared the brambles.
The 20 brick rocket stove I built in the garden is working very well for cooking at the moment.
Krishna came to stay for 5 days and did a great job starting to dig a trench to connect water pipe to house, preparing many meals for us all and sharing spiritual truths.
Connor and Ian have been here for 4 days, preparing firewood, making a woodstore using old windows from the house, making composting bins, preparing a fire circle in front of the tree and playing music and singing.
All have been hoping me for the online Super Reading course by Jim Kwik which started 3 days ago.
Today we all took the day off and visited the hot spring baths in Kyustendil, and Connor and Joseph joined me for the first module if the Joy of the Infinite Kundaluni Yoga Warrior Training. So good!
Good company, good vibrations!
Update 8th October 2019
Work progressing well in the house. Bathroom is now ready for tiling. Bedroom 1 - skim plastering underway. Door should be fitted this week. Very warm in the evenings when we light the fire. Comfy mattresses and plenty of blankets acquired to keep us warm at night. Days are getting colder but still some sunshine often.
Latest video from a few days ago here:
Bathroom tiling has begun.
I look forward to hearing all about you if you would like to visit
ps. One of my favourite poems:
The Guest House by Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
