Nov2015 - For the next stage of the NGOs development we have recognised the need for a longer term volunteer (1-3 months or more). Experience not necessary, the role would be to see through current strategic plans as well as to foster community interest. Private accommodation with bathroom and kitchen will be provided for the duration of the stay. Assistance with visa requirements can also be managed.
We are looking for volunteers to help create a permaculture garden and sustainable living example at public places (like schools, religious buildings, community areas) near the Dead Sea. In the last year we have created an eco-home, with graywater system, permaculture garden and sustainable building. We have also begun growing our own food here. Right now, we are planning to reproduce our success on a larger scale, with support from the local community.
Here we are an international team, with locals and volunteers from around the world working together to create a better future for the next generation. Our town is Al Mazra'ah, located in the south of the Dead Sea (in Jordan). Nearby are many beautiful canyons and hot springs to explore, the salty Dead Sea to float in, and many more!
This is a small NGO, and its mission is to promote a sustainable environment and economy in the Jordan valley in which both humans and the natural environment flourish. We strive to accomplish this mission through the methods of Eco-Tourism by establishing an Eco-Camp for visitors to the area and Ghour al-Mazraa as an Eco-Village for the local residents.
1. Nature conservation
2. Environmental education
3. Intercultural exchange & cross-border meetings
4. Sustainable tourism
Objective 1: Nature conservation
The primary objective of the Centre is the conservation of natural resources, specifically water.
Objective 2: Environmental education
Our aim is to educate locals and international visitors about the environment and sustainable living, as well as to raise awareness about the water situation in the region.
Objective 3: Intercultural exchange
We intend to make the Centre a multicultural meeting point. International volunteers will experience the local culture while at the same time bringing their own culture to the locals.
Objective 4: Sustainable tourism
We aim to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to the existing tourist locations in the Dead Sea region.
We want to use a graywater system for water conservation and would prefer people with experience or interest in environmentally friendly lifestyles (you don't need to be an expert). Our goal is to create a learning resource centre to teach and to share knowledge about sustainable living to my community as well as international guests.
We also want to offer you a cultural exchange, you can see and experience life in a rural Jordanian town. Ahlan Wasahlan! (Welcome!)
