Our farm offers a unique array of personal, professional, cultural, and social opportunities. We want your stay to be as enriching as possible – we want to know how we can help make your time here meaningful, so be sure to let us know what your interests, talents, and objectives are!
To get things started in the right direction, here’s the lowdown on what we can offer you and what we expect in return…
What we offer…
•Typical hosting commitments are capped at 3 weeks but we are happy to negotiate if longer stays are desired.
•A zero-tolerance policy for violent or discriminatory behavior, so in essence, a peaceful, welcoming environment.
•Room and board…Rooms are likely to be shared depending on how many guests we have at one time – typically no more than 3-4 at once.
•Shared meals…We enjoy cooking and eating together! We try to honor dietary restrictions and preferences and are happy to offer delicious food for vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores alike. WWOOFERs staying on for longer periods are welcome to join us on grocery shopping trips to help with selection.
•Comfortable, communal living complete with laundry facilities.
•Some Internet access…Email great, long-distance Skyping not so much.
•Trips to town and local events…we've got a great arts/music scene and the surrounding area is just as historically and culturally rich…We’ll keep you in the local loop.
•Fun, rewarding work with dedicated organic farmers.
What we expect…
•30 hours of work per week…About 25 hours in the field, the rest spent at distributions and markets.
•Shared household chores…General daily personal upkeep of bathroom, kitchen, living space plus two-hour Sunday household deep clean.
•Willingness to work hard and have fun doing it!
If this all sounds pretty reasonable to you, you’re in the right place and we’re are happy to be your home-away-from home! Always: Feel free to express concerns or ask questions if/when they arise…And KEEP ON GROWING!
More details on the farm:
Location: Our farm sits in the Yocona River bottom 12 miles due South of Oxford, MS. The bottom's microclimate combined with the ancient floodplain's rich alluvial soil provide for a hot, humid, lush growing season. Oxford's legendary musicians, thriving local economy, award-winning restaurants, and strong farm-to-table culture make it equally fertile ground.
We function as a small community, especially during planting and harvest, spring through fall. Farm-hands, volunteers, neighbors, friends, shareholders and friendly strangers make for eventful and interesting days on the farm.
In addition to work on our farm, we encourage volunteers to experience the fullness of our community by working with our friends in a wide range of settings, from a local sushi bar to a family hog farm, a small up-start family farm raising goats to another Certified Naturally Grown vegetable production in Tupelo.
We host full-moon drum circles each month, and drum on most lunar and solar holidays (equinox and solstice). This season we plan to host many on-farm activities, from in-field workshops covering everything from building soil and sourcing seed to harvesting and curing herbs and vegetable culture.
We're interested in working with folks from all places, and have really enjoyed our past friends' visits from countries around the world and cities around the country. We're able to provide indoor housing and basic amenities (plumbing, bed, kitchen, fireplace) as well as camping amenities (bring a tent, though!). Contact us with what dates you'd like to visit and a bit about yourself and we'll find a place for you!
