Hi, my name is Lisa and I was fortunate enough to grow up on the Big Island. I met and married my husband 5 years ago. My husband Riaan and I live in a 6 bedroom house with my mother in law on 3 acres of land. We have more than 180 fruit trees and plants on our property (that he planted)!

My husband built an off grid cabin on our property that we are offering in exchange for volunteer help around our farm and home.

The cabin is a place to sleep. There is no electricity or plumbing. There are battery operated lights. The bathroom and kitchen in the main house are available for use by the cabin occupants. The cabin is situated about 80 yards from the house.

The person on persons wishing to stay need to share the cabin with a sweet cat. Giving Twitch attention and food will be mandatory. Please don't choose us if you are allergic or have any issues with staying with a cat. We live close to Hilo in a rain forest on one of the most beautiful and untouched areas in Hawaii.

Hours expected are 20 hours per week for a single person and 16 hours each per week for a couple.

I need help with a variety of tasks: cleaning and laundry, maintenance in and around the house, landscaping, pulling weeds, weed whacking, lawn mowing, attending to a small nursery/vegetable garden, painting and yard cleaning.

Short and long term home stay options: (two weeks minimum) This is opportunity for free accommodation in exchange for work, helpers provide their own meals.

I enjoy cultural exchanges and skill sharing, I am always learning.

No smoking, no excessive drinking and no drugs allowed on property. I also prefer no pets.

Helpers are responsible for buying and making their own meals. The cabin has a double and a single bed.

This is a very big island and everything is spread apart. The bus system is not great. To sightsee you really should rent a car. An Uber or taxi to Hilo a few times will add up to a car rental cost in no time.

The town of Kea'au is closest for buying groceries, however, prices are better in Hilo. There is no delivery of food in our area.
