We could use help with plants, animals and fixing / preparing equipment and buildings. We are welcoming helpers who really want to learn about small scale diverse farming.

This farm is vast, beautiful , well equipped and established, but dont expect pretty. The Motto here is 'care for the living' or FarmFirst. We also have the Best swim hole, River walks and hike options and breweries. Sorry, No couch, no TV, Great hot shower. Yes internet of various speeds, Only Verizon coverage.
We Welcome great minds joining in Problem solving, inventing, researching, experimenting and planning years ahead. Farming combines many specialties: engineering, botany, weather study, nursing, nutrition, tools, tractors, wood works etc.
Virginia has mild days, and cold nights. It is sure to rain. Lots of night music from frogs and bugs. There is a camper for guests to stay, lots of great tenting sites. A cabin is available for winter months. I can meet you at the Charlottesville bus or train station. Plan on staying on the farm. We dont go to town often. With help at home, we can sojourn to the mountains to hunt mushrooms and plants.
This is not a Generational farm. The 'Main' house is efficient but not quaint, ie, not built with pension funds. Outside is more important to us and most of our time is spent there. We're planning a new area that will serve as communal space & shared kitchen. Please dont bring junk food here, we are dedicated to non gmo, organic nourishment.
Sustainability is a modern myth, Our success is in the hands of the Farm's Patrons. There is always need for cash to keep us supplied with fuels, feeds, machine parts. We produce products known as Value added (pickles over are more profitable then cukes)to insure the public support. We cultivate many fruits, nuts and uncommon medicinal plants. Come find out why we grow what we do.
We are Busy all winter with permaculture: pruning, manuring, transplanting, propagating Hoop Houses gardening, mushroom log inoculation, improving infrastructure, predator control.

This is a Good opportunity for exploring site planning, invasive exotic species control, tree and plant Identification. Irrigation systems, tractor, animal, machine maintenance, organising and clean up.
Truthfully, you cant have enough money and friends/family to farm. News? Small farms do not get government funding and rely on outside work. Farms are failing daily world wide. If you can learn 'country skills' you will be welcome anywhere in the world. With landscaping skills, you can make good money near a city with little investment. Here, We plan on serving paying guests as B&B for income.
We Daily care for Dairy goats, meat rabbits, ducks, veggie starts. They are not just 'chores' they are our meals and income. This farm is good for people who have spent time rurally, are committed to non factory foods and are not afraid of bugs or the dark. You will not be asked to help with animal processing if you dont want to.

We choose this 'lifestyle' as our commitment to health and access to clean food, a Revolution in the collapse of the Family Farm around the world. We are experiencing the current effects of the Climate Emergency and can only hope to share the simple Solace of our beautiful surroundings. clean air, water and the night sky.

Thanks for your interest, we're looking forward to exchanging our Knowledge and resources for your time, efforts, and stories from your gardening & travel experiences. Your visit is better then TV !
Thanks for considering us as an educational exchange.
