We operate a unique diversified family farm that has been in the Nenke family for over a century. Today the farming operations continue with cropping of wheat, barley, lupins and peas. During summer our neighbours run their sheep on the harvested paddocks.
We are innovators and in 1991 we set up Cambinata Yabbies to grow, process and market yabbies (freshwater crayfish) to the world. Today we are recognised as the oldest and largest registered yabby export establishment in Australia and continue to buy live yabbies from a huge area of southern Western Australia.
In 2003 we converted our shearing shed into a function centre, complete with candlelit chandeliers and candelabras.
In 2006-8 we were successful in receiving a Federal Government 'grant for value adding in regional Australia' which resulted in the construction of the largest commercial kitchen in the region. This purpose built facility is now used for value adding yabbies and abalone, producing and marketing a range of dukkahs, extracting honey from Michael's beehives, hosting functions and serving meals to tourists from all over the world.
Through hosting functions of up to 180 people we recognised the importance of quality accommodation and successfully applied for a Tourism grant to assist in building an eco friendly village on the property. Mary's Farm Cottages was completed in December 2014. It includes 8 cottages that are rented out as motel units, apartments and whole cottages. Electricity is supplied by a stand alone solar system with lithium batteries backup as well as a system to reuse the grey water to subterraneously water the lawns. Clients include business people, tour groups, families, tourists and city people attending events in the region.
