Kia Ora!
Help wanted December

We’re a couple living on a large lifestyle block on the edge of the Waima river arm of the Hokianga Harbour.
There’s a variety of work around the house, bush, gardens and farmland.

The property is a mixture of pasture, orchard, remnant native forest and undulating land in transition back to native bush. We also have a lot of tough weeds we are clearing.

We try to incorporate permeculture and spend most of our time working outside. Our farm follows the Ohuri river with a magical mangrove forest and native wetland for about a kilometre to the confluence with the Waima river.

There are 2 spare rooms in a separate area of our big historic house (it was once part of the hotel in Rawene 100 years ago). It`s very comfortable and private but we share the same bathroom.

4 - 4.5 hours work for every night stayed.
Nicky has hurt her back so we need help around the house as well as outside
Work is before lunch so afternoons are free to explo... more inside

Bay of Islands, Kerikeri lifestyle block with 3 Highland cows, 5 alpacas, ducks, peahens, guinea fowl and our much loved dog Honey. Looking for a couple to work a few hours a day to help out around the place - outside with the farm and inside with the house, we're pretty easy going with hours that you work, leaving you with plenty of time to explore the beautiful North or work. You'll have a private cabin, separate from the main house with a small kitchen/sitting area and bathroom. Ideal location for the Bay of Islands - halfway between Kerikeri and Waipapa with Pahia only 20 mins away. Owning a car would be handy, no public transport here, but Waipapa and even Kerikeri are only a walk away.

We've lived overseas for many years, including time in South America, Asia and the Middle East, and returned six years ago to start our 'off grid adventure'. Having 'internationalized' it's been time to put some roots down (literally) in a sustainable, creative and co-evolutionary way. These days we're a family of four (kids aged 3 and 6) and a friendly dog. We speak some Spanish and a little Japanese and would receive foreigners eagerly (also fellow NZers of course). We're one hour's drive from the nearest towns (Kaitaia and Kerikeri) although a small organic co-op is twenty-five minutes away. Neighbours include a Bee-Keeper and his family, artists, potters and homesteaders, some of whom are open to receiving helpers who may wish to spend more time in the area.
People wishing to learn about setting up off-grid so that they can do so themselves would be able to pick up valuable skills at our place. Because we are still building our home, accommodation and facilities are limited. H... more inside

We live in Waipapa/Kerikeri on a rural, 4ha life-style property. We have cows, ducks, chickens and a large vegetable garden. There is separate 2 bedroom accommodation for guests.

The intercity bus stops in Kerikeri. Our property is 5km from State Highway 10. We will collect you from Kerikeri if necessary.

Help needed is varied: gardening, pruning trees, drain clearing, room painting and repair, building painting and repair, weed control, farm maintenance, fencing, chopping wood.
In return we will provide free accommodation and meals.

Most of our food comes off the property and we aim to be as sustainable as possible.

We have a two dogs and a tiny orchard.

Double bedroom with bathroom. Wi fi and shared Sky TV. Shared meals (but if vegetarian cook your own). Your own transport would be ideal, but we can provide lifts to most places.

We are a busy couple who live on a 10 acre plot of land close to the sea in Northland.

Our plot of land allows us to practice self sufficiency with a vegetable garden, orchard, cattle, sheep, chooks, ducks, a dog and cats. Our meals are home grown, we eat what we grow.

Each week (weather permitting) we fish commercially for flounder.

We ask for help in our garden, orchard, fishing, net making, general farm and everyday chores, repairs and maintenance both on the land and on the boat. We need 2 people for some tasks so couples or friends are what we prefer.

We also have a beautiful yacht which we enjoy sailing and relaxing on.

There is a stunning DOC walking track that starts on our boundary and there are lots of beautiful beaches within a 50km radius, and a beautiful surf beach - Taupo Bay 25 minutes away. We also have kayaks for your use.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Anne and Doug

Kia ora and hello!
Our home is in the middle of Honeymoon Valley surrounded by beautiful native bush. We built this house using mudbricks (our own local clay) and green roofs. I use a basic mix of permaculture & bio-dynamic principles with projects. We'd like to host people who have some life and work experience and who can work independently. Please arrive on a Friday so we can get to know each other and work together over the weekend.

We are busy with mowing, composting, chickens, chopping fire wood, gardening, renovating, in season - making vinegar and bottling fruit, home-brew beer, baking bread, propagating, seed collecting etc. We also have a workshop with basic tools and recycled wood, bamboo etc. for woodwork and carpentry.

For 4-5 hours per day of helping us, we exchange accommodation and food: your own room and bathroom; breakfast, sandwich lunch and cooked dinner, mostly organic, mostly with veggies & fruits fresh from our garden.

If you need lots of snack or... more inside
