We are a young family of three renovating out 1890's railway workers' cottage. Our daughter Ada is 2 years old and Caroline is working part-time, while Simon works full time. We share our home with four chooks, a hive of bees and Horangi the cat. Our little home is very central to local cafes and restaurants. We are a 10min walk to Hagley park and 25mins into the central city through the park.

The inside and outside of our renovation is complete! With BIG thanks to two amazing HelpXer's Peter and Long! and we are now onto the Sleepout rebuild - we will need your help now!!

To help dis-assemble the old Sleepout, repair our glasshouse (in the photo), relocate our vegetable garden, and other small domestic jobs (e.g. mowing the lawn, cleaning the kitchen). It's a small house, so the Helpx guests will be staying in our newly renovated and warm 2 person caravan in the driveway, so they will have to be comfortable with the possibility of sharing a room with another HelpXer's.

We aim to make most of the property productive other than a small lawn and the drive. Check out our Instagram page to see what we do @LighthouseUrbanFoodForest.
We are looking for a couple over 25 years of age to come for for the week (7 nights accommodation) 4th - 10th March to assist with various garden jobs including harvesting, planting, pruning, digging and a bit of weeding.

We have boarders and Airbnb in the rooms of 2 character cottages, and would like help for maintaining the house and improving the small gardens.

Cleaning and gardening help is very welcome. It's hard work, but short hours - we expect 2 hours help a day for accommodation only.

We are also working on a project to create a Village of Tiny Houses. So, it is very nice to meet people from any nationality with skill in landscape design, architecture or drafting, accounting, joinery, or pitching for investment funding :-)

The kitchen is available for your use, just bring your own food, and remember to do your own dishes and put them away.

We often have a pot-luck dinner together in the evenings, hope you will join in :-)
No smoking, thank you!

We live in Heathcote valley and have availability to host people in our campervan or inside our family home.

We have purchased a heritage listed earthquake damaged building in the city (final photograph on our listing).

We are looking for any enthusiastic hard workers to help with lots of things for the building.

In March we need help with:
- Demolishing a chimney. Taking out bricks and storing bricks that are whole. Taking broken bricks and rubbish to the rubbish dump.
- Removing vinyl flooring from a room.

In Feb and March we have these options:
- Stripping paint from weatherboards on the main building.
- Stripping paint and sanding back old windows, skirtings and architraves

We expect 4 hours work per day in exchange for food and accommodation. Hours can be worked more on one day, and less on the next. Our current helpx is completing 3 days of 8 hours in a row, and then has 4 days off. This is working as a great option!

We are a family with two young boys... more inside
