We live on a 5 acre hobby farm in the beautiful Huon Valley, Southern Tasmania. Our family consists of three active children, two horses, many chickens, and two gorgeous dogs. We grow organic vegetables and breed heritage chickens in an attempt to be more sustainable.

Jobs involve general gardening, helping with the animals and housekeeping. If you would like a Tassie small farm experience email us with some details of the work you have previously done.

We have separate accommodation, with a bathroom.

All our HelpXers have loved working and living with us and I hope you will too (please remember Tassie is a cold place in winter).

There are many areas of natural beauty in Southern Tasmania which are all fairly close to us. For example, the Hartz mountains, Hastings Caves and the Tahune Airwalk. We live close to a sleepy village called Cygnet and Hobart is only a 40min drive away.

(Unfortunately we can't approve second year visas)

Due to the current viral pandemic I can only accept helpers who have been in Tasmania since before July and are virus free.
Planet Sandi overlooks the rural village of St Marys near the north east coast of Tasmania. I am a retired gardener who is developing my retirement retreat which I am happy to share with visitors. I enjoy meeting travelers, fishing, cooking, art, dogs, cycle touring and being content with my world. I need assistance with fruit harvest, landscaping, construction and maintenance work to maximize the potential of my property. Helpers have the choice of three double bedrooms with shared bathroom. Household duties are shared evenly. No smokers or illegal drug users. Six hours assistance five days. Helpers are welcome to join me fishing, walks, verandah gazing and story telling. Everybody is welcome at Planet Sandi especially mature aged helpers and families.

We are a family of three (and 2 dogs) who have moved to Tasmania from Victoria one year ago to build our own house.
My husband and I did all the work ourselves to create our 4 bedroom home which we moved into last October, and now we could do with a hand finishing off some of the final touches.
We are happy to provide comfortable, separate accommodation with own bathroom and meals in exchange for general help around the property and house site. 4 hours work per day would be great!
You may learn some new handyman/woman skills and I've just started to get a self-sustaining garden up and running too.
We have hosted aupairs from all over the world for several years when our youngest was little and still consider those that stayed with us as family! Our former Korean aupair even brought her husband back to visit us on their honeymoon 4 years after she had lived with us. We are very patient and happy to assist with english skills if needed.
As a family, we are still wanting to get ou... more inside

G'day, I'm Kerry.
My property is a 3 acres bush block with ocean view & a small 1 bedroom shed house that I am renovating.

Spring is here so I'm welcoming helpers again!

My property is very much at the establishment & development phase as I only purchased the property in January 2019.

The long term goal to plant Eucalyptus trees and native shrubs to transform what used to be an old rock quarry into a Eucalyptus Arboretum and Australian Native Garden.
The current project for spring is to establish a greenhouse and growing area for a small horticultural business. The goal is to grow eucalyptus trees for the wholesale market and potentially the Hobart farmers market.

I am expanding and building my vegetable growing & creating more of a garden around the house.

During autumn and spring I plant trees and harvest from my coppice plantings of boundary trees for firewood.

Summer is all about watering the veggie garden, trees and garden plants early in the morning bef... more inside

Update: I'm quite keen on anyone with:

- a desire to help return our side path to standard. Basically minor landscaping, paver laying, and/or
- CAD (computer aided drafting/design) experience in the short term.

We live in an inner Hobartian suburb (3-4km from the CBD) on a 1/4 acre block in a 1930s weather board ex-farmhouse (now suburban dream house ;-). On top of work and raising a daughter and two sons, I'm trying to maintain a garden and house and can always use help.

We are five: Bernd and Dani, with children Gypsy Anna (2003), Leon (2013) and Felix (2017).

There are spare bikes for getting around, a few bus routes nearby and it's not a long walk into town (4km or 30-40mins) or the North Hobart cafe strip (1km or 10-20 mins).

I'm a seasoned traveller, ardent hitch-hiker and built a local games society from the ground up, now hosting competitive game meetings one a month.

I speak Esperanto, German and some French. Dani speaks English and Serbian. The childr... more inside

We are located in the idyllic valley of Lorinna; an active, vibrant rural community with a strong cooperative ethos, frequent communal events and working bees, a food co-op, abundant wildlife and wonderfully clean soil, air and water.
We live on a property with several other households with whom we share work and resources and a stand-alone photovoltaic and micro-hydro power system.
We are a family of four with an 8 year old daughter and a 4 year old son whom we homeschool with a natural learning approach.
Last year we returned from a five month bicycle trip through Europe (planned around visiting some of the amazing friends we`ve made through Help X) and are keen to further embrace the joys of simplicity and are building a tiny home from reclaimed materials where we can live a more minimalist, outdoor lifestyle. We primarily need help with building and/or playing with the children while we build. Given the amount of enquiries we receive we are currently only able to host helpers... more inside

HELP!!!!! Spring is here and I'd love to have someone here to share this special time of year and get the vegetable gardens "crankin" for the summer crops. If anyone is already in Tasmania and looking for somewhere to spend some time, I am able to host you.I'd like some help clearing and establishing some walking tracks through the forest on the property. I prefer people with experience in gardening and farm work . Looking for someone from now, through the next few weeks.Someone with electrical wiring skills would be a bonus but not essential.
When you first contact me [or any other host] it is very helpful to tell us what date you would like to arrive and leave. It helps us to co- ordinate things so as many people as possible get to experience what there is to offer. Sunday and Wednesday are the only days I am able to meet people and bring them to my farm. Please keep this in mind when you send your first message.
There's a variety of things to keep us busy and plenty of spar... more inside
