We have nearly finished building a timber workshop and will soon have a good woodworking shop. Next we will be refurbishing an old shop building and a Showman's Wagon. We are moving our home towards being off-grid: digging the well and getting a pump working, increasing solar hot water capacity and installing photo-voltaic panels.
We have a few chickens plus Eva dog and Eric the cat. We have a large garden with a vegetable plot. We enjoy life: working hard, meeting new people and cycling around the South West, especially if it involves a good Somerset pub... We need help with carpentry and building projects, gardening, dog-walking. We can consider long term stays after a trial period.

We are happy to help people learn English and suggest ways to discover our area. We can lend bikes for helpers to get around and explore the countryside. Our village is small and quiet and the area is very beautiful. Somerset is a county with many contrasts: hills, moors, coast and towns.

Hi, My name is Andy and I've been a host for years now both with Helpx and other organisations. I appreciate spending my time with people like me who want to learn more about this strange and wonderful planet we all occupy. I get on with people who care about others and want to learn more about themselves. I have learnt a lot from my time hosting people and my journey continues.

I am a well-educated person and believe that life is a continual learning experience, I like listening to the music of most genres, watching a good film and watching documentaries. I am interested in matters of environmental sustainability, climate change, current affairs, psychology, history, politics, philosophy and technology. I have a good sense of humour, I like to share a joke and tell a story. I like to laugh and of course to have as much fun as life allows me.

I live here with my partner Joe, he is a good person and is also an experienced traveller. We are not really traditional people and we a... more inside

We have been hosting helpers since 2011 and enjoy meeting people from all over the world, sharing food and cooking and hearing about other cultures.
We like to host a couple or 2 friends, preferably with some gardening experience. We need people from March onwards. We have planning permission to build a new eco house in the garden so there is quite a bit of preparation needed for this. There is a range of jobs depending on the time of year including pruning trees, picking fruit and veg, fencing, pond clearing, small building work, decorating, cooking, weeding, planting, making bonfires etc.
It is a large wildlife friendly garden, orchard, poly tunnel, veg, pond and coppice wood/hedges. We make sure the work is suitable for your level of experience and welcome your ideas too.
Artists studio in the garden running printmaking courses.

Accommodation is 2 double bedrooms in the house, or in simple small wooden house in the garden. This has a compost toilet and a solar panel that d... more inside

Join us for a Homestay in rural Lincolnshire. We will be hosting again from the end of March.

Hello, we are Jane and Dave. We live in a small village in rural Lincolnshire in the East of England where we keep bees, chickens and pigs, and a lovely cat and grow fruit and vegetables in our large garden.

We'll be hosting volunteers again from the end of March. Please do read to the end of our profile and have a look at some of our testimonials to see if this is the place for you.

We’ve travelled a lot ourselves, so it’s great to welcome people from around the world into our own home. We get the benefit of all the help with the animals, the garden and our various projects and enjoy the company of so many interesting people. We particularly want to hear from people with specific skills such as a real knowledge of gardening, carpentry or construction work or just a general familiarity with working with tools. However being independent, having lots of common sense and initiati... more inside

Hi there Helpers,
We would like to invite 3 people into our home who genuinely love young kids and are looking for a true cultural exchange with a british american family. We need help caring for our two young boys and keeping the house clean and tidy. We would like you not just to come help us out but to truly become part of our family and want to BE with us, not on your phones all day or tucked away in your bedroom. We hope to build a relationship with you and stay in touch even after you leave.

We are an international couple from England and America (Mark and Amaris) and recently had 2 little boys :) in 2017 (Teodor "Teddy") and 2018 (Alexander "Alè"). We have traveled far and wide and have now chosen to settle down for a bit in a small village, south of Cambridge, UK. Mark works with computers and Amaris has a part time job but mostly works from home and cares for the boys. We have no pets at this time but hope next year to get a small dog.

A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

Hi HelpXers,

We are looking for help from April 2020 onwards.

We live in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands, where we have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead).

We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials. Saddhavati is an artist and teacher.

We are nearing completion of our "natural" home. It is a "passive solar" design based around a traditional post and beam timber frame with "breathing" external walls clad with untreated larch and a living green roof. The building is insul... more inside

What are your plans for 2020? We now have volunteers until later in the summer but we shall still need some extra assistance for both the holiday cottages and in the garden to welcome our visitors from mid-July onwards

We are in the Highlands of Scotland near the Isle of Skye. We hope to hear from you.

Do you want to explore the Isle of Skye and the North West Highlands? Attadale would suit either two friends or a couple as space is limited. Ideally for a minimum of three weeks, preferably one month please. Last year we had at least three volunteers returning for a second time, which must be a recommendation! Check out their reviews below.

Beautiful estate with large garden open to the public and four holiday cottages situated in wild country near the Isle of Skye. Garden open from April to October. Holiday cottages available for visitors from March.

Our home an old, 19c red brick farmhouse near miles of coastal nature reserves. The area is popular with tourists who come to see the seals at Donna Nook in November & December. Great area for photography, walking, etc - beautiful coastline and countryside - VERY rural, farmland surrounds us.

Cloddygate Farm is NOT a working farm. We have a large organic garden with flower borders, veggie patch, herb garden, fruit trees and greenhouse.

We keep a few hens for the fantastic eggs and the 'girls' are great fun too!

We usually like short term helpers(2 - 4 weeks) working in the gardens, weeding, planting etc., sometimes helping around the house, cutting wood, cooking, preserving but it's difficult to know as we do projects as money allows but we'll try to make your stay as varied as possible.

We would also like help internal decorating/painting this year.

Expect to work 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. In addition keeping your own room and your bathroom clean and tidy and ch... more inside
