Hi HelpXers,

Mum (Pat) and I (James) moved here about 7 years ago to get some land, escape the busy city consumer lifestyle and start on a path of sustainability and self-sufficiency. My partner Holly is also staying here with us. We are starting to produce our own organic food, water, energy, materials and much more. Basically trying to remove the dependencies we have on big corporations and the failing economic system. I believe we need to re-establish community, sharing, loving and helping each other, rather than pursuing our manufactured need for money, big TVs, fast cars and bling etc!

Short term we are looking for someone to help with jobs such as weeding, potting up, wood chipping, splitting logs, digging, housework, woodwork/repairs, strimming, re-pointing the stone walling and paving slabs, hedge cutting etc. Being familiar with basic tools such as a saw and drill would be useful.

Long term we are looking for someone to fir in with the day to day jobs, and be able ... more inside

We run a small yurt camp site, with 4 Yurts and a Shepherd`s Hut. We really enjoyed welcoming 3 HelpX people in 2018 and are now looking for a helper who can help us put the yurts to bed at the end of the season, from mid-September for about 4 weeks. We aim to clean and re-waterproof each yurt before packing it away for the winter and during this period we also have some painting work to do (inside and outside our renovated barn) and landscaping work to do in the meadow, around the garden and maintaining the farm buildings. We can help if you want to learn more about basic carpentry and painting skills, and landscaping/gardening for wildlife.
We're a "Green" environmentally award winning site, running for 9 years and we also have a "green" approach to our house, with solar pv and solar panels for hot water, as well as a wood pellet boiler. Whilst not registered organic, we have an organic sensibility and don`t use any chemicals on the land or on site.
We (Kim and Nick) live... more inside

Hi guys, we're currently looking for people to come and help us in September. We need people who are really into gardening, either have experience or would just like an opportunity to learn and also people who are keen to help us with some building. We want to make a glass house out of reclaimed materials! If any of this interests you, please let us know!

We are a couple from Cornwall who are helping to run the family's small holding. We are fun loving, hard working individuals who are enjoying implementing Permaculture designed buildings, allotment, polytunnel, animal areas, forest garden and ponds. We have a large variety of projects on the go from building sheds to 12v solar/wind systems and rocket mass heaters to apple tree guilds. We are interested in planting edible/medicinal plants and already have some on the go ready to harvest for tintures! Our work varies between building, gardening, animals and holiday lets. Exciting :)
Nick normally works full-time at home finishin... more inside

Hi, My name is Andy and I have been a hosting people for years now. If you are looking for something different then please read on.

I appreciate spending my time with people who want to learn more about this strange and wonderful planet we all occupy. I get on with people who care about others and want to learn more about themselves. I have learnt a lot from my time hosting people and this journey continues.

I consider myself a well-educated person and believe that life is a continual learning experience, I like listening to the music of most genres, watching a good film, writing, and watching documentaries. I am interested in environmental sustainability, current affairs, psychology, history, politics, philosophy and technology. I have a good sense of humour, I like to share a joke and tell a story. I like to laugh and of course to have as much fun as life allows me. I run my own business and I mostly work based from home.

I live here with my partner Joe and we have been t... more inside

Hi traveller!

First: Please read all of our listing before contacting us - thank you!

We are a young-at-heart, well-travelled couple who own two holiday cottages. One is in the countryside in Somerset (rural, but not isolated). The other is at the sea-side in lovely West Mersea, Essex.

We spend time between May and September at these properties, having a working holiday ourselves, doing basic property maintenance, spring cleaning and gardening. The rest of the year we spend abroad (www.equitationsciencetraining.net)

We love hosting and to have good company while we are keeping these properties tidy, and you are welcome to join us in either property if you have RELEVANT experience (either property maintenance, cleaning or gardening).

At the moment we could do with a few pallets chopping up, window cleaning, and the gutters and drains wiping over if you're ok up a ladder, and a few bits and bobs fixing. Car washing and interior cleaning always appreciated too. Caravan ... more inside

At the moment I am specifically looking for someone who can tile a floor for me it is concrete and the room is prepped and ready to go 88inches by 140 inches so not a large room. I had someone here who was going to do it but he hasn't done it before and has developed 'cold feet'.

I am a strictly non smoking place both inside and out. Smokers including those who vape, will be asked to leave.

Can you speak English, do you like animals and working outdoors?

I ask for about 5 hours a day and am in The South West of England a lovely area in the country close to Dartmoor National Park and also the Devon/Cornwall border. very scenic close to great walking country. 2 kilometres away there is a huge supermarket which sells everything from food to washing machines, it is open 24 hours.

Help is needed for ongoing gardening work and also looking after two cats and a dog.

The garden here is very large and it is open to the public to raise funds for charity (a local hospice... more inside

Due to last minute changes, we have a vacancy for one volunteer until approximately the 6th September.

WE THEN NEED a lovely volunteer who has experience with horses and who can stay for OCTOBER and NOVEMBER until at least the MIDDLE OF DECEMBER.

We need help with our animals (several horses, many chickens and 2 playful friendly small dogs), the fields, the garden and in the house IN EXCHANGE for all food, accommodation, a lot of riding for someone experienced, a beautiful area and the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. We cater for vegetarians and many special diets (especially Coeliacs) but unfortunately NOT vegans (as we use our delicious fresh eggs!). We are unable to provide Kosher or Halal food.

Riding is available (during free time) for someone reasonably experienced (and of a suitable height and weight) and who has their own riding insurance and can bring their own helmet and suitable footwear.

We are easy going and enjoy what we do and love ... more inside

Looking for people for ocotber 2019:
We have a large house and garden with lots of outbuildings so there are always jobs to keep everything under control, such as gardening, cleaning, building maintenance, fruit picking and cooking. We also run a campsite, have people who rent rooms from us long term and people who rent rooms for just a couple of days. So its fun here with lots of new people coming and going. You will not be asked to help with our business, but if you choose you can practice your English on our guests.

Next place available is September for one month.
Welcome to wales. Ex traveller now a host. Stay in a farmhouse surrounded by nature, and help to look after and walk Sled dogs and Sheep dogs.
You can also learn about dog training, handling and grooming, if you want too.

This is a peaceful and secluded farm in the Welsh countryside ( with WiFi ), a quiet place to get away from it all, maybe do some meditation and get in touch with nature.
Dog Training, Dog Handler training, Rehabilitating aggressive dogs, and Sheepdog training are some of the things that happen here.

The work is cleaning kennels, refreshing water bowls, walking the dogs 2 times a day. First in the morning, and again in the afternoon, and then letting the dogs out for a wee last thing each night just before bedtime. A little help around the farm and in the house if needed.

4 hours of work/walking dogs a day maximum - 2 hours in the morning, and 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon and 1/2 hour last thing to pu... more inside

UPDATES-IMPORTANT:

We cannot take more than 3 helpers, but here you can check when the next ones are leaving so you can apply for those positions:
- 1 from mid September
- 1 from the last week of September

* Ideally minimum stay 4 weeks.
* We don't plan too far ahead as all depends on how long the current helpers are staying or extending but you can try

+++ At the moment the help required is very easy: Basically 3-4h cleaning in the morning since we have 2 managers doing morning/evening shifts for the welcoming's apart from 3pm till 6.30pm that both managers are busy and 1 helper should be around, or when managers have days off.
