Free self catering accommodation on Isle of Skye in return for help in garden and croft.

18 June -14 July

Hello folks.

For the last two years I have been building a load bearing strawbale bothy, but between working fulltime and building the bothy my dog, garden and croft have been badly neglected. The strawbale bothy is nearly finished, but I don't want to leave my garden and croft to deteriorate any further.

I'm looking for folks who are comfortable working outdoors, getting muddy, maybe scratched by brambles and hopefully know a wee bit about horticulture to help rescue the garden and croft.

So here's the deal:

I will be moving out of my two bedroom traditional stone built croft house and into the bothy so that I can finish it in the evenings after work and at weekends.

This leaves my house available for helpexers. There are two double bedrooms so it would ideally suit couples or friends happy to share a bed! This will be a different experience from the las... more inside

Hi i'm Brendan,
I have an off grid nine acre smallholding on the isle of skye in a former quarry ( 10,000 tons of landscaping done ten years ago ,and eight thousand trees planted there after ) on which i have lived for over ten years , i have a large garden /a beautiful river ,and run a small sawmill business to supply the regional market .
I work as a teacher of woodwork in the local collage .
As everything here is off grid, accommodation can vary from a converted container to a tree house or a double decker bus,or the bothy in the big shed .
I'm needing help in and about the garden path building and manual labour in the sawmill as i have an issue with heavy lifting due to an old injury.
I am also a musician ,so their is a fair bit of music about the place and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed.
I would love to meet motivated people who can share their skills .
hope to see you
cheers

Lyn and I (and Molly our bearded collie) are located a few metres from loch ness near the village of Invermoriston. Our properties sit at the edge of a forest through which the Great Glen Way runs and is ideal for walkers, cyclists and anyone who loves nature. We have two holiday lodges and need help with changeovers, cleaning, etc. We are looking for someone or a couple who is/are a lover of nature, independent and can use their own initiative to join us this year. We will provide accommodation plus food (I am a vegan and Lyn eats most things) for approx 2 to 4 hours voluntary work per day. Other work will include gardening, helping to prepare an organic veggie plot, general maintenance and helping to set up a mini-hydro. We obviously would like to learn from you as well.

Sometimes its not all about work as we like photography and travelling around our beautiful country. We treat everyone with respect and expect volunteers to do the same. We work hard at making sure tha... more inside

Katie and I own a small crofting home in the rural heart of the Scottish West Highlands in a small village called Lochailort.

During the summer months and peak times we offer Bed and Breakfast or Self / Catering to paying guests.

We are now looking for help (a couple ideally or a self motivated individual) with a minimum stay of 4 weeks or longer if possible.

We are remote, but the area is stunning and can be just the most beautiful in all seasons.

Your first passion will be a love for nature and the rural environment. We are 27 miles from the nearest town (Fort William), and surrounded by mountains and a small stream. The 'Harry Potter' Jacobite steam train passes on the railway just near our back door. The seaside is only 5 minutes away and we are fortunate to live in one of the most scenic parts of the North West Highlands.

During time off you are welcome to make use of our bikes and kayaks, or simply take to the hills with our two lovely dogs for company :-)

Hello, thank you for looking at our listing.

We are Cathy (40), John (38) and Leo who is 7 years old and home-educated. We live in a beautiful little cottage slap bang in the middle of a nature reserve.

We like to have 2 helpers so friends are welcome to apply, alternatively we are happy to take 2 single travellers - but please be aware you may need to share a sleeping area with another helper (who we will ensure is the same sex and similar age to you.)

We do not take helpers without seeing pictures, so if you do not have photos on your profile, please let us know your Facebook page or other.

Sleeping accommodation will most likely be a small (landed) boat in the garden, but with full access to the house 24 hours a day.

Small hobby farm with horses and miniature donkeys, with large gardens. Ettrick is a beautiful relatively remote rural location just over one hour`s drive from both Edinburgh and Carlisle. I am flexible about arrangements and look forward to ensuring my visitor`s stay is rewarding, in exchange for some help with the house, animals and garden.
