We are a couple in our late fifties and live in the heart of the countryside close to the coast of Co Down and numerous unspoilt beaches. Castleward - home to several scenes from Game of Thrones and Killard Nature Reserve are close by. We have views of the Mourne Mountains which are easily accessible by car. The small, picturesque villages of Strangford, Killough and Ardglass are close to hand. Portaferry is also accessible by taking the ferry accross Strangford Lough. We enjoy being outdoors and I walk my rescue dogs on the beach every morning. My husband enjoys fishing. We would consider ourselves easy going. Our family have left home, our son and his family live in England and our daughter and her family live a mile up the road from us.
We are looking help for 5 or 6 hours a day 5 days a week. The work would include general gardening (grass cutting, strimming and hedgecutting), repairs to and re-stoning our lane, helping build a patio area and moving soil, fencing and clearing a... more inside

Few years ago a looked into a small oyster farm in Northern Ireland.
When I took over the farm it was abandoned and I started it all again from scratch. At the moment I am the only person envolved and I have been busy developing the production up to 10 tones for the year 2019 and hopefully 30 tones by 2021 which is not that much in comparison to other farmers.

Oysters are cultivated on the intertidal area of the shores of lough Larne, I love w orking outside with nature. Work can be hard and physical and I am just looking for help and sharing experiences at the site.

Work hours are variable and there is not one day the same. Oyster farming is organic, there is not added fertiliser or feed because these animals are filter feeder, meaning they eat micro algae, a natural food source coming with the tides.

I specially like being out there within the nature and wildlife, it is common to see seals and many birds around the farming structure and the surrounding. Access is 10 m... more inside

2 houses joined together, one is our home, the other is for airbnb guests on short term stays. All are surrounded by a largish varied garden with organic vegetable planters as well as Fruit trees, camomile lawn, wildlife pond and mini woodland etc.
I am retired but write songs/play guitar and some photography. Eibhlin my wife does aromatherapy. The house is a mile from Killyleagh, a small historic town dominated by Ireland's largest privately owned castle. Good public transport to and from Belfast (18 miles) from Crossgar, 5 miles away (can drive you there). We need help to do some specific projects in the garden In august 2019 if the right kind of person came along, you would need to be strong and sensitive to plants.
The projects are clearing overgrown areas, digging and developing new planted areas, and repairing/rebuilding raised beds. Construction skills would be most welcome. We might add a new wooden building. We always need general help painting and weeding.
