Hallo aus Island
(sorry for writing only in German, but we are only looking for a german speaking person at this moment)

Where to start? We are a family in the western part of Iceland, at the gates of the Westfjords, Beggi runs the sheep farm. We have 400 sheep and all possible trouble that can be connected to sheep: fixing fences in the summer, gathering sheep in the autumn, feed them and shear them in the winter and then lambing season in spring.
We are running a small mussel farm (shellfish) that we have to attend to twice a week
We are also renovating three houses that we own in the area. We are usually hosting 2-8 people at the same time and our current record is having people from 5 continents at the same time!

It's been over 3 years since we hosted our first volunteers. Since then we have hosted over 200 people and so many of them have visited us again and helped us.
We have absolutely no idea what we're doing right. We ask people to work hard, but we take long coffee breaks that are filled with endless stories and jokes. We have met people from all over the world that we know will be ou... more inside

We are located on the Vatnsnes Peninsula, 25km north of road no. 1. Ósar ocean beach is full of life. Seals abound and also eider ducks and other birds, and the rock Hvítserkur, which resembles a prehistoric Dinosaur, is within walking distance.

The unspoiled nature, peaceful environment and a variety of recreation opportunities makes this an ideal place. In only about 5 min walk you are in unusually close contact with nature. Here guests can see a number of different birds and one of Iceland`s biggest colonies of seals, swimming only a few meters from the beach.

We are offering a help exchange, we are offering helpers to come and stay with us in exchange for help on the farm, or with the Hostel.. That could be helping cleaning rooms, or doing reception, on the farm it could be fence work, or helping with the animals.

A superb place for nature lovers

We are a family of 6 and live on a sheepfarm in the northen westfjords. we live about 30 km south of the next town. In that town live around 300 people.
We are looking for someone who can help us working around the sheeps and other farm work. in may is the season for the lambs to be born, then we have to be in the sheephouse 24/7. We are expecting about 800 lambs so there is a lot to do. In the summer we collect the hay for the winter and paint houses and other maintanse.
if someone prefer to help us doing houseworks on the inside, than that is also an option, like, cook, bake and clean floors and do washing.
We are flexable.
We are 39 and 38 years old and our children are 18, 14, 12 and 10 years old. Our youngest one has autism.
We are musicians and sometimes we work outside our farm. I, Barbara am an special educator and work in the school in Hólmavík 4 days a week from 8 til 16. Viðar is doing all kinds of music and is often away from home during the evenings and sometimes ... more inside

Hi there. Welcome to our listing.

We are a couple living in a small house on a small farm in the southern of Iceland. We have two young children, a two year old boy and a three year old girl. We also have a dog, cat, chicken, geese, horses and calves/bulls.

Even though covid19 has put a bump in most peoples plan, life will continue, and we are starting to plan for the summer. This summer our big plan is to open a small family friendly horse-center and host classes for kids.

We need people who are willing to participate in everything that needs to be done related to our home and farm, and are willing to get their hands dirty if needed. At the moment we are looking for someone to babysit our kids while the kindergarten is closed and we have classes going on, from the beginning of July til beginning of August.
It's also a huge plus if you have knowledge of horses and can ride, or if you have worked with kids.

We require people who is easy going, have good work ethics... more inside

We don´t need any help.

We are sheep farmers and got some horses. What we want help with is in May with the lambing season but in May - August is horseback riding and some other work at the farm. The helper have to have a good practice in horseback riding (but if you are just helping in May you don´t need to be able to ride a horse). It is good if the helper have some experience whit the Icelandic horse. The Helper needs to speak English.
The volunteer lives in our home. Have a room for her/him self ( in May some times have to share a room). Eat with family 4 meals a day. We want our volunteers to be like one of the family.
A stay with us you get a chance to meet Icelandic nature and culture. Icelandic sheep farming and also the Icelandic horse that has been protected from the settlement.
Work is 5-6 hours Monday to Friday. In May, at lambing, it can be work on Saturdays and Sundays. But then there will be a extra day´s of in stead.
Stafn (the farm) is in the north east of ... more inside

We live in a beautiful area in the northern part of Iceland called Skagafjörður. Our farm is a dairy farm with 50 cows. At the moment we are finishing a new cowhouse so that we can have around 100 cows. Me and my husband took over from my parents which also live here (separate houses).

We have four children, two small and two grown (21 and 22 years). The smaller ones are a 6 year old girl and a boy, 8 years old. We both work full time at the farm. The kids go to school working days.

The main help is with every day work on the farm. Could be milking or all kinds of different jobs on the farm, and to give us a hand with the kids, like playing or take them for walks f.ex. Maybe cook or bake once in a while but no obligation.

We would prefer someone who would like to stay with us for some time maybe a minimum of 3 months..someone who has a drivers license and is open for a new culture in a happy lively home. This is a live in with the family kind of thing so we can also ge... more inside

Hi, we are horse-family. We live in south of Iceland and we have stable for 20 horses, but we own 80 horses.

We live in a big house and we are used to have many people with us, mostly girls who have the focus on going to the riding teacher school in the North, Hólar. I am educated riding teacher from Hólar so I am teaching a lot. I am looking for people that can work with horses, feed, muck and clean. We have horses in every training scale, young ones, breeding horses, competition horses and mostly we are training the sale horses. We also have a small Horserental. We look forward to hear from you :)
I lived in Norway for 6 months working on a horse farm so I know a little bit how it is to experience something totally different from home.

I like to have people that have good balance and are open minded. Experience in Icelandic horses is not important, only that you have been riding before :)

Best and kind regards
Sjöfn at Perluhestar

2020
We are focusing on setting up worm farms, charcoal production tests and raised transport pallet growbeds. We are likely to have a Ecosystem Restoration Camp in August and we are hosting a PDC (permaculture design course) in September on a different site.

We are only taking in a handful of volunteers in August and September. Looking for inspired people willing to contribute in a meaningful way.

The site is a barren, but interesting landscape, close to the town of Þorlákshöfn, bordering both a rock mine “the Pit” and a disposal site for mostly organic waste “the Tip”, giving the site easy access to a variety of resources and building material.
The heart of the camp site is our outdoor kitchen, we have a shelter for tools, outhouses, and campsite.

We have a varied and growing access to disposed of or unused resources, which solidly places The Five R’s at the heart of the site (Re-fuse, Re-duce, Re-use, Re-pair, Re-cycle). The landscape is of great interest as it is... more inside
