Our house
We live in a nice and small town in Belgium called Maaseik, which is _6__km from the Netherlands and _12__km from Germany. Our house is our dream home with a big forest-like garden. We grow lot of fruits, vegetables and herbs, all of which we try to eat every day. We also have chickens and ducks which we keep for eggs and sometimes meat. In the middle of our beautiful garden, and separate to the main house is a Holiday Cabin, with sleeping space for up to 3 people and its own toilet and shower. This will be your own private living space while staying with us.
About Us
I’m Marijn and I am an artist (writing and painting), chef and bartender and work different hours each week, but am home often to work around the house. My partner works full time for UPS and is away from home from 5am-7pm therefore access to the main house is only until 8:30pm so he can get a good sleep. We are a gay couple, open minded, and non-religious. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats which are very friendl... more inside

We are ecologically renovating an old house with straw-bales and clay. We are looking for straw bale / clay building enthusiasts, who like to make their hands dirty.

Hosting gives us the possibility to travel while staying at home. We enjoy making vegetarian dishes, but occasionally we eat meat. Joris is a professional wood fired clay stove builder. An recently started as a full time ceramist, making hand crafted pottery.

As our straw bale building is getting more and more to a finish, so the type of help that we require gets more and more refined. We need helpers who are handy with woodwork and plastering. But if you know that you are handy you are very welcome to come and learn.

If you stay with us you can sleep in a handcrafted straw bale house, we have a room with double bed and shower for our helpers.

Who are we?

I am Julie, a Waldorf high school teacher and a horse trainer and my husband is a contractor. We are both almost 30 years old. After many travels and different projects we are now settling down. We bought and old farmhouse and some land, both in very bad shape. We hope to renovate the house in a sustainable way and use the land to slowly become self-sufficient. This is a long term goal and it will take many years to achieve it.

We do everything ourselves.

So we need help.

We decided to look for someone (or 2) using Help x because we used the site ourselves to travel around and we really loved it.

Are you fond of working in the garden, working on the land, working with horses or building work, or a combination of all of them?

Are you a respectful honest and kind person?

Are you willing to work hard?

Contact us!

What can you expect?

We live in de the house and renovate it at the same time, so be prepared to live on a construction site. You wi... more inside

Akasha is a peaceful place to ‘be’, get inspired and reconnect with yourself and nature. Our community and activities offer the opportunity to deepen your practice and knowledge in the holistic field of meditation, yoga, soundhealing, shamanism and more. Welcome in our ‘school of life’.

What does volunteering in Akasha Retreat Center imply?
We are all working and serving in the spirit of karma yoga. Karma yoga we could translate as ‘love and awareness in action’. The key elements to karma yoga are to find happiness by serving others, to find freedom and to let go of anxiety by surrendering the fruits/results of our actions and to cultivate awareness while working. All this is done while remaining effective and focused in our work. To really live from this inner stillness and peace while working, we highly recommend all volunteers to join us regularly for meditation, yoga and/or soundhealing work. Karma yoga invites us to make our entire life and all our actions a spiritual act... more inside

Our place situated next to a beautiful wood, 15 km from the town of Namur and its citadel. We have a small but plentiful garden in permaculture.
Our project is to develop a place in which people can find a haven of peace, reconnect to nature, to their real Self.
We experience and share a way of life based on solidarity, benevolence and the conscienciousness that we are all interconnected and can learn from eachother, from our apparent differences. Living a simple life closely connected to nature, eating and cooking healthy food from our garden and from neighbouring farms are also important values for us.
The project includes the building of a small forest garden and we also offer possibilities of personal and couple coaching and activities.
We need help for the garden and/or in the kitchen and/or for small housekeeping or DIY jobs.... to build a welcoming environment. We have a yourte in the garden for guests and a room with private bathroom for helpers.

[English version below]

Bonjour !
