I have a small farm that l want to expand and keep as organic as it used to be when my grandparents used to run it. I have little experience in agriculture and am mainly learning on the job.

We offer bed and food to anybody willing to help run the farm. Hours are flexible, but generally 25 hours/week and we take Sundays off for sailing or relaxing. Depending on who is here and what projects we are working on, we sometimes work longer days one day and shorter days another day. We have internet and bathrooms both indoors and outdoors.

We have some animals: goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, a donkey, and a cow and of course some cats and dogs. So anybody who loves animals and/or vegetables and doesn`t mind getting dirty is welcome. We grow tomatoes, corn, potatoes, zucchini, beans, berries, and more. So there`s many things to do and many different skills are needed. We also have some community projects such as initiating people to waste sorting and other related products like compos... more inside

Help!
Sometimes it's hard to admit when, with all your good intentions and all the work you do, you will not succeed alone. And maybe you do not even have to make it alone, maybe together things will not go only faster but better. So, help!

What are my intentions?
To build an earthbag house.
To build a bath house.
To build a summer kitchen.
To create a shelter for a horse and maybe other small animals.
To start a raisedbed garden.
To build a small green house.
To bring water from the forest spring.
To organize a nature summer camp for kids.

What do I need?
Volunteers eager to build, with or without experience in building with natural materials. Together we will learn how to build a house with minimal impact to the environment.

Volunteers that know something about gardening, raised beds, permaculture and greenhouses will be my teachers, since I do not know much about growing plants or small animals.

Volunteers who are good at horses. If you are good at horses an... more inside

* Languages spoken in the farm: French (native), English, some Romanian

* Description of the area:

Isolated farm in Transylvania, in a valley surrounded by woods (the wood is nearby – 50 meters – with a nice waterfall at wet season), streams and pasture. The closest village is Malin (400 inhabitants, 1,5 km from the farm). The first city is Beclean (10km).

* What do we grow on the farm?

We practice permaculture, and we grow our own food, for us and visitors. We are trying to reach food autonomy, so we need to harvest enough to fill the cellar for winter (potatoes, roots, jars…). We have a lot of walnuts and fruit trees. We have some chickens for eggs. We make hay for our tree donkeys and for mulching. We pick wilds flowers/plants.
We also do eco-construction to renovate the buildings : we are working as much as possible with natural materials (such as clay, straw, timber from the forest nearby…).

Looking to broaden your horizons? Come and join us in Romania near the Black Sea, where time stood still, life and food is good, the sun is shining and people are extremely hospitable!

HOME: At 10 minutes walking distance to the sunny beach we (Marcel and Vali) have a lovely traditional Romanian cottage with some land in the small village named 2 Mai (Doi Mai). 2 Mai used to be a popular hideout for dissidents in the communistic era. You will find a mingle of cultures living together for centuries, beautiful countryside with abundant flora and fauna, ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine remains. We are currently restoring the house and are planning to build 6 small lodges for ecotourism and restoring the old edible garden and vineyard. We need help with the ecological garden (permaculture, including planting and digging), the restoration of the cottage and the sustainable construction of the lodges that will be built with natural (recycled) materials such as wood, stones, straw and... more inside

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
We live in a (still) traditional village surrounded by hills and forests where time goes in a different pace. For many years our household was part of an intentional community group that has unfortunately dismantled in 2017. However, we keep on our beliefs and values and go on experimenting simplicity with permaculture and technology, weaving a social web of people interested in alternative living.

Last summer, Teodora, the main ”engine” of the household was away in a volunteering mission in an African country and this has radically changed the perspectives. For this year the farm goes into a new experimental stage of minimizing the time inputs, sharing the space and allowing time to go away. Courageous volunteers will be cared by Contantza, an energetic yet fragile 77 years old lady with logistic support from Thomas who will be there on week-ends.

For March and April all work will be put into creating a low effort maintenance vegetable garden. That me... more inside

Update (early March 2019): It's still wintery here (snow this morning) but there are hints of promises of Spring, so I'm starting to think of happy sunny rainy warmer days ahead. What about you?

*************

Come and do the Timewarp in Transylvania... It's a little bubble of rural paradise, 1,000m up in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, where villagers still use horses and carts, make hay with scythes, use traditional smallholding skills and have a simple way of life.

HOME: I have a modest house with a small patch of land in one of Romania's most beautiful villages, Magura, in the Piatra Craiului National Park. (NB This isn't a farm, and the only animals I have are four cats and half of two dogs. Animals abound, but they belong to the neighbours.) The unspoilt wiildflower meadows and wildlife are famous and a haven for botanists, entomologists, naturalists, artists and anyone who likes wilderness. Mountain ridges to the south and the north, and spectacular views al... more inside

Hi! I'm Radu, living in the centre of Brasov, and I've been working for a few years now (on and off) on improvements to the house in Sinca-Noua , a nearby village, where I grew up. This year I'm hoping that we can make some real progress at the house, so am looking for volunteers to help in finishing off the building and transforming garden into something beautiful again: generally tidying the place up a bit!

The village is set in the beautiful countryside a short drive through the mountains and forest from Brasov and the house is across the road from a little river and with glorious mountain views, particularly spectacular from upstairs.

I speak Romanian, English and German.

The house in Sinca-Noua needs some work, initially to tidy the garden and inside too, and then to do some light building work - laying some insulation upstairs, fitting some new windows, a little roofing (slipped tiles) generally decorating and finishing the cosmetics of the place as it's still a littl... more inside
