We are a young-ish couple who started up a small eco-hostel in spring 2018 in the Codroy Valley of southwest Newfoundland. We're looking for a motivated helper in 2020 who is genuinely interested in learning with us how to live off grid and sharing skills. Possibility of both short- and long-term stays, depending on the situation. Attention winter volunteers: We are happy to have people around at Bert Bark Inn in the winter months (Jan-May) but since the workload is significantly less apart from some chopping of wood and other odds & ends we would expect you to pitch in for groceries and cooking.

Currently we rent out rooms in a hostel but our vision is to make it less about tourism and more about sustainability education and permaculture in action. We'll still be a hostel but with lots of activities on the go every day, whether it's food & gardening workshops, "free school", movie screenings, sports & games, meditation, music, festivals, etc. All skills and knowledge could poten... more inside

July 5 2019 Currently looking for helpers from July onwards.

In March or April of 2019, I will be accepting helpers. The work will be helping with all the chores I have to do, helping with dinner in the evening. The area where I live is best suited to helpers that are comfortable in a quiet environment surrounded by nature. I live in a rural area; however it is quite easy to get a ride into St. John's if you need to enjoy some city life. Often my helpers stay at the hostel if they want to take in the night life or some other function in St. John's.

I've traveled myself as a helper which gives me insight into staying in someone's home. Therefore I try to be very understanding of a person's culture and preferences. I do ask that you keep your room neat, tidy and clean and help keep the kitchen clean.

Please e mail if you are interested.

Sincerely,
Judi

Do not trust the St. John's taxi service. They charged one of our guest $170.00 when we could have gotten him here for $20.00. We are custodians of a truly Irish Newfoundland private museum. Some of our items have appeared as props in some great movies: Random Passage, The Shipping News, Rare Birds, Misery Harbor, Quest for the Sea, Swallowed, Above and Beyond & many more.

As you can imagine, keeping a private museum and prop storage organized is more than a two person job! We'd love strong workers who don't mind getting a little dusty for organization and labeling of items, as well as people who have some construction or farm experience to help out with outdoor projects like building a deck and barn at some point.

Allergy warning, we have pet goats, turkeys, geese, chickens and a sweet old cat wandering around and that's just for now! Only the cat lives indoors, but the other animals are very much a part of the family. We are meat and potatoes people, it would be very diffic... more inside
