Namaste! Thank you for stopping by. :-) I hope you will join me on my journey for a month, 2 months, or long-term.

I have a pair of picturesque, riverfront hobby farms, each with a large 4-bedroom house. I am transitioning the farms to more of a communal space with plans for an ashram/yoga retreat in one of the houses.

There are three acres of wild blueberries that I want to convert to organic production, six acres of pasture, and about eight acres of woods that provide more than enough firewood to heat both homes without having to clear-cut any areas. We used to have lots of beautiful alpacas, but sometimes life has other plans for us. My partner and I went our separate ways last year, and the alpacas were sold while I was briefly away. I have started rebuilding the alpaca herd, though. Got a real beautiful black alpaca recently. We will create beautiful alpaca fibre items again. :-)

In the past, we harvested a small portion of our food from the property, and my vision is ... more inside

We want our helpers to gain the experiences that they most want to learn.

We have been hosts for several years for Wwoofers (farm helpers) who stay at the farm to help us with outside work in the gardens and with the animals. This year, we are exploring the HelpX site as well and are hoping to have sufficient help on hand during this busy (b... more inside

We grow organic table grapes , a good size vegetable garden, a few fruit trees and chickens. There are some construction projects such as a large tree house with a zip line and a green house made of wood and glass and clearing of brush and of course tending to the grape vines and garden. We can teach you the skills or if you already have them that is great. This is a real farm experience with some fun too. There is biking to town, swimming in the ocean or our lake, fishing, basketball, volleyball, hiking, nature walks, beach strolling and look for fossils at Blue Beach, camp fires , rope swing in our little lake, paddle boat, take in the fantastic views, sunsets, star gazing, internet, tv, phone and go to near by towns such as Wolfville as well as the rest of the Annapolis Valley with the local bus.The accommodations are seperate for helpers and a communal kitchen for you to enjoy cooking together with an abundance of food. Over the last dozen years with a lot of help from people from HelpX.net we have turned this place from an neglected piece of land to a really neat farm. This season we will be raising chickens, a couple of pigs and a couple of beef cattle plus a large organic garden and a small orchid. We also plan to spend a lot of time this summer working on trails and clearing land. Since 2005 we have had a total of 45+ people come and stay with us. Some come for as little as a week and others came for the season. Several helpers have even come back year after year. Located in the rolling hills of Prince Edward Island Canada this 150 acre farm has been certified organic. To date we have restored the original farmhouse and built or restored eight out-buildings, including a machine shop, Garage, pigionier(it's a long story) and a several barns, planted large garden and small orchard, made a large pond and cleared some trials in woods. Check out our website for pictures and information. Lots of wo... more inside

We are currently seeking help for the early Spring 2020 season. We are looking for motivated individuals who want to participate in the building of a new farm and gathering place and who are interested in learning about off-grid living, unlearning, and rewilding. We are also offering longer term Intern and Apprenticeship programs this year.  Please contact us for more information. It will take many hands to see this vision succeed and we invite you to come and be a part of the journey!

In 2017, following our dream of living in deep connection to our food and The Wild, we found ourselves stepping into the role of stewards of an incredible piece of land on the East Coast of Canada. This was a long way away from our roots in British Columbia, yet one of the few places in Canada that was affordable.

Twisted Roots Farm is located on the west side of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. This unique property is 74 acres in size, consisting of mixed forest with a stunning year-rou... more inside
