EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS WANTED IN EXCHANGE FOR ROOM & BOARD - WATERFRONT COTTAGE PROPERTY - Northern Ontario, Canada GREAT SCENERY - LEISURELY PACE

Our next opening is for mid-August of 2020 and beyond. Lots of openings for the rest of 2020 and into 2021.

BC is not the only place with Great Scenery and there is a lot less rain here. Hope you will give us a chance to show you what we are talking about.

We live on an unspoiled pristine lake in a wilderness forest area in northern Ontario Canada and are looking for a guy who is a motivated "Volunteer Visitor" who is an easy-going self starter and does not smoke and eats regular food.

The opportunity we offer would be ideal for someone who loves the tranquil setting of a lakeside home surrounded by hundreds of square miles of protected forest and enjoys being in and on the water (or would like to experience "the land of ice and snow" in winter).

For continuity, we prefer long term visitors. (We plan to keep hosting her... more inside

January, 2020.
Time to start thinking about post Winter & Spring opening routines- maple syrup production, branch and debris clean-up, field burning, the pool, the garden, the underground water systems and machinery maintenance, fence-rows and roadside clearing.
No pics of snow blowing after a monster storm, no pics of maple syrup production, of the vegetable garden, of the many flower beds to be kept, of the wide expanse of lawns to mow, of weed whacking, forest management and maintenance, the portable saw-mill, the summer cottage, rhubarb chutney processing, the asparagus bed, the apple harvest, and no pics of the trampoline or the five workshops.
WHAT HELPX MEANS TO ME: Giving HelpXers a chance to be creative, inventive, resourceful and independent, given access to the extensive machinery and equipment that is available. Sure, the camaraderie and companionship are important, as are the opportunities to experience a variety of culinary delights that are brought to the table. ... more inside

Though we are open to hosting, we are being very careful so are looking for helpers with common sense and respect for our caution in regards to Covid. Our requests will depend on your recent travel history and exposure. We can discuss particulars beforehand in emails. The extra pair(s) of hands is a great plus but not at the cost of the health of those in our home. We hope you understand.

Hello Helpxers! Let us introduce ourselves. My name is Carola and I live with my husband Jeremy, our 7 year old son Henry and my mom Heike on a 50 acre farm in the Hills of Mulmur here in Ontario. We have a small hobby farm. From the spring to the fall we have 60 chickens, 25 turkeys and 6 ducks.
My husband is a mechanic and works in the nearby town of Shelburne. I work from home and have a pet sitting/dog hotel business. My business is well known, well respected in the industry, where we keep up to 10 dogs with no cages or crates, though in a separate part of the house. I can perhaps teach y... more inside

** We are now seeking helpers that have been Covid free for at least 2 weeks, and act responsibly with masks and social distancing **. We prefer a minimum of 4 weeks - beginning in July 2020. My niece and I have a scenic country home on two acres with spectacular views of rolling hills. There are excellent hiking and biking trails nearby, and beaches of Lake Simcoe are only 20 minutes away by car, one hour by bike. We will be happy to drive you there. Two bicycles and high speed WiFi is available. We have two dogs and two cats. We are located one hour north of Toronto - accessible by Go Transit to Newmarket, where we will pick you up. On your days off, we will be happy to take you to Newmarket to catch the train/bus to Toronto. We can do the cooking but are happy to share the cooking, and will welcome any specialties you may have. We are not vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. If you are, then you should probably look for a different host. Also please note that this is also a... more inside

Gardening, forestry
We live in a small cottage on a friendly lake about 3 hours north of Toronto.
We have the usual cottage toys available, canoe, small sailboat, row boat. Looking for help with selective cutting trees for firewood and lumber which we cut on our own small mill. Hopefully someone that is a better gardener than we are as we would like to start growing our own produce and maybe even get some chickens. Help with some construction and painting projects. We have some old machinery we are always trying to keep running. We are offering free accommodation and meals in exchange for help.
This is a no smoking environment.

We are located in Ontario Canada, on Manitoulin Island the largest fresh water Island in the world, heart of the great lakes. This large Island has 108 inland lakes and sandy beaches.
We have a 1/4 h garden that provides organic local food for our tea garden lunches. In July and August we host a dinner event called Gourmet Garden Gig with live entertainment Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Our garden provides a space to linger and enjoy a cup of tea at lunch time. We teach our help-x about most we do. You like to learn gardening, bee-keeping, cooking, herbs, remedies and selling good food, you're a great fit for our small but very diverse little business. Farm to Table is what it is called in Canada. Since we teach various skills we prefer help-x to stay a minimum of 2-3 weeks, we also welcome help for a longer period.
Both Guy and I love sharing life`s knowledge how to live sustainable with a small carbon footprint creating the biodiverity needed by birds, bugs and us.

MAY 24 UPDATE Depending on the situation, we may request all guests maintain distance for several days to limit direct contact.

Existing farm activities continue as we devote additional resources for the house build this year!?

The farm was established in 2014. It is 2/3rds forested, and 1/3rd fields.

Learn how permaculture (ecological design) is being incorporated into our farm and house build:
* growing our forest garden (2ac or 0.8ha)
* cultivating shiitake and oyster mushrooms, plant and graft trees (April-May)
* picking berries (July)
* harvesting apples (October)

* optimizing our energy, water, and fertility systems
* harvest and table at occasional farmers' markets
* participate in workshops and community projects

I have a permaculture design certificate and specialize in forest gardening, wild and edible plants, mushroom cultivation, site design, water systems, social permaculture, and many more.

Expectations are for guests to help 4h/day which flexes... more inside

COVID UPDATE
Iíve decided to host a single or couple during this time under certain conditions. I have a brand new apartment on on of the farms where new hosts can stay. We will limit contact for the first couple weeks, I will give you some tasks to handle mostly yourselves and a food allowance. Prefer a couple who can keep each other company and having some practical skills to do some repairs, run a chain saw etc.

Hey everybody
My name is Josef Theiler and this is Theiler farm. We milk 70 cows, and 250 goats twice a day, 365 days a year and work about 400 acres. There is always plenty of work to do, from feeding the calves and cows to bedding, maintenance, tidying up,housework, yardwork, tractor driving, carpentry and mechanics. I have a passion for inventing things and automation, with a well equipped ( though somewhat disorganized )workshop. The work arrangements are pretty flexible, I don`t like to count hours, so usually we work when there is work but we also try to make... more inside

We are NOT accepting any helpers at the moment. (posted June 22, 2020)

Our home is 20 - 30 minutes from downtown Toronto. It is in a vibrant multicultural area, with lots of restaurants/coffee shops/community centre/parks - some influence of the Italian/Portuguese cultures. Our family consist of: our young men (Nicholas is 21 & Elliott 26 years), my husband - John and I (Mai)and our medium size dog (hypo- allergenic)- Turo. We also have have AIRBNB guests in the apartment on the first floor.

We are active, health conscious, and live as "green" as possible. Mai is self employed - makes kombucha, has a healing practice in health and wellness, and a Fire Keeper (facilitates gatherings around a sacred fire). John is a lawyer. Elliott is a chef and has a part time healing practice. Nicholas is studying at university. We are family and community oriented. We work hard and play hard. We love to ski, bike, hike, camp, and be in nature.

There is a spare bedroom. This is for ONE PE... more inside
