Looking for fun and helpful individuals interested in visiting Toronto. Looking for company and some general help around the house.

You will do around 3 hours each day of work - without my needing to chase after you. Might also be interested in any special skills you have.

You will be sleeping in either my guest room or basement depending on when you are coming and whether I'm already hosting anyone else. I live up by Finch West station, about a 2 min walk from the station. There's not a ton to do in my area but its very easy to go downtown where there is a lot to do.

I generally prefer that you are back by late evening so we can hang out. You can stay out late occasionally, with a general weekday curfew of 1030pm and weekend curfew of 1130pm. This is not the place to stay if you are hoping to be out clubbing etc regularly.

Offering space to stay and breakfast only. There's internet and I can show you around the University and probably a few other places depending on my... more inside

Update: NOT MAKING ANY RESERVATIONS AT THIS TIME
We would like to continue with language practice and looking for Native Spanish or French speaker.

You will be welcomed into our family of 4 (youngest is 19). We enjoy meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds and would love to learn about your culture and hear of your adventures. We have been hosting for over one year and have been happy to have welcomed visitors from: Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Germany, Japan, France, Uruguay and China. (Although we are new to helpx we can provide a link with excellent feedback from the visitors we hosted)

You should be someone who wants to join us with dinner, outing, conversations “like family”. Most diets can be accommodated as we have one vegetarian, one nearly vegan, but the rest of us eat meat, fish, etc. There is one small pet rabbit also. None of us smoke and we prefer a non-smoker.

Hours: 5 days a week, It is for 24 hours of work required for the week - plus one ... more inside

Gardening, forestry
We live in a small cottage on a friendly lake about 3 hours north of Toronto.
We have the usual cottage toys available, canoe, small sailboat, row boat. Looking for help with selective cutting trees for firewood and lumber which we cut on our own small mill. Hopefully someone that is a better gardener than we are as we would like to start growing our own produce and maybe even get some chickens. Help with some construction and painting projects. We have some old machinery we are always trying to keep running. We are offering free accommodation and meals in exchange for help.
This is a no smoking environment.

January, 2020.
Time to start thinking about post Winter & Spring opening routines- maple syrup production, branch and debris clean-up, field burning, the pool, the garden, the underground water systems and machinery maintenance, fence-rows and roadside clearing.
No pics of snow blowing after a monster storm, no pics of maple syrup production, of the vegetable garden, of the many flower beds to be kept, of the wide expanse of lawns to mow, of weed whacking, forest management and maintenance, the portable saw-mill, the summer cottage, rhubarb chutney processing, the asparagus bed, the apple harvest, and no pics of the fitness room trampoline or the five workshops.

Update March 30: Due to the ongoing Coronavirus, our house has decided to request a 2 week quarantine inside our house. We have a small bedroom available where you can stay. During the quarantine, it is no problem spending time outside or going for walks. You can also work with us while wearing a mask and gloves. We will bring you meals to your room. After two weeks you can fully join us. So far no one living here has gotten sick.

Especially looking for people with renovation skills/interest for our new kitchen/dining room project that is underway (now until at least end of April). Also there will some cooking, cleaning and website work.

Note: We don't always book people many months in advance, we prefer to wait until closer to the start dates so we can see how much space we have. Some people here stay longer than they initially planned so we don't always know the timing of openings long in advance.

If you would like to help, please let us know your range of availability ... more inside

MARCH 28 UPDATE: we are booked with friends' visits and will be keeping a low profile for the next 2 months. Depending on the situation, we may request all guests self-quarantine in the trailer accommodations for several days to limit direct contact.

Existing farm activities continue as we devote additional resources for the house build this year!?

The farm was established in 2014. It is 2/3rds forested, and 1/3rd fields.

Learn how permaculture (ecological design) is being incorporated into our farm and house build:
* growing our forest garden (2ac or 0.8ha)
* cultivating shiitake and oyster mushrooms, plant and graft trees (April-May)
* picking berries (July)
* harvesting apples (October)

* optimizing our energy, water, and fertility systems
* harvest and table at occasional farmers' markets
* participate in workshops and community projects

I have a permaculture design certificate and specialize in forest gardening, wild and edible plants, mushroom cultivation,... more inside

My niece and I have a scenic country home on two acres with spectacular views of rolling hills. There are excellent hiking and biking trails nearby, and beaches of Lake Simcoe are only 20 minutes away by car, one hour by bike. We will be happy to drive you there. Two bicycles and high speed WiFi is available. We have two dogs and two cats. We are located one hour north of Toronto - accessible by Go Transit to Newmarket, where we will pick you up. On your days off, we will be happy to take you to Newmarket to catch the train/bus to Toronto. We can do the cooking but are happy to share the cooking, and will welcome any specialties you may have. We are not vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. If you are, then you should probably look for a different host. Also please note that this is also a no smoking, no vaping and no drugs home, and that you must have medical insurance for Canada. Work assignments include weeding, mowing, trimming, painting, window washing, and some housekeepin... more inside

Currently still needing helpers for April, June, August, September, October and November 2020. Also specifically for the first week in June. Though priority is given to those looking for 4 weeks or more, it doesnt need to start at the beginning or end at the end of the month. You're always welcome to send us a message and we'll see what we can make work :)

(With the current state of affairs, we are still accepting Helpxers but our focus has shifted to preparing our farm for greater self sufficiency so if you want to come here, please be prepared for a lot more gardening, planting, weeding and preserving than usual)

Hello Helpxers! Let us introduce ourselves. My name is Carola and I live with my husband Jeremy, our 6 year old son Henry and my mom Heike on a 50 acre farm in the Hills of Mulmur here in Ontario. We have a small hobby farm. From the spring to the fall we have 40 chickens, 25 turkeys and 6 ducks.
My husband is a mechanic and works in the nearby town of Shelburne.... more inside
