Hello Helpxers! Let us introduce ourselves. My name is Carola and I live with my husband Jeremy, our 5 year old son Henry and my mom Heike on a 50 acre farm in the Hills of Mulmur here in Ontario. We have a small hobby farm. From the spring to the fall we have 40 chickens, 25 turkeys and 6 ducks.
My husband is a mechanic and works in the nearby town of Shelburne. I work from home and have a pet sitting/dog hotel business. My business is well known, well respected in the industry, where we keep up to 10 dogs with no cages or crates, though in a separate part of the house. I can teach you a lot about dogs and their behaviours if this is of interest for you. We live in a very rural area so there is no public transportation but its only 12 minutes to the nearest town with stores (Shelburne population 8000) We are non smoking (you are welcome to smoke outside) We are not vegetarians but our food is sourced from local farms, and you are welcome to cook for yourself if you don't wish ... more inside

We are located in Ontario Canada, on Manitoulin Island the largest fresh water Island in the world, heart of the great lakes. This large Island has 108 inland lakes and sandy beaches.
We have a 1/4 h garden that provides organic local food for our artisan bakery and events restaurant. In July and August we host a dinner event called Gourmet Garden Gig with live entertainment Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Our garden provides a space to linger and enjoy a cup of tea at lunch time. We teach our help-x about most we do. You like to learn gardening, bee-keeping, cooking, herbs, remedies and selling good food, you're a great fit for our small but very diverse little business. Farm to Table is what it is called in Canada. Since we teach various skills we prefer help-x to stay a minimum of 3 weeks, best learning experience will be 4-6 weeks with us.
Both Guy and I love sharing life`s knowledge how to live sustainable with a small carbon footprint.
You will have your own room with shared b... more inside

We are booking now for May 2019. Thank you to all the wonderful helpers who have given us their time and energy in 2028.

Our home in Parry Sound is 2 hours north of Toronto by car or 3 hours by the Ontario Northland Bus. Alternatively you can try to find a "ride-share" on the internet. Look for someone going to Sudbury and ask to be let off at Parry Sound. I will pick you up at the bus stop.

Georgian Bay is a UNESCO wildlife reserve and is the home of many endangered species. For more information visit; http://www.gbbr.ca
http://www.parktoparktrail.com/ (an amazing trail connecting Parry Sound to Algonquin Park)

Exchange involves 4 hrs per day and you have a private room and 3 meals/day. Helpers log their hours and set their own schedule. Many helpers work longer days then plan to take off 1 or 2 days off to explore the area or to relax.

There is a sunny guest room (in the photo) with a double bed and an additional single, high speed wifi and TV. The house is ... more inside

.January, 2019.
Time to start thinking about the post Winter & Spring opening routines- maple syrup production , branch and debris clean-up, field burning, the pool, the garden, the underground water systems and machinery maintenance, fence-rows and roadside clearing. Lots of trimming and finishing in the recently built GREAT ROOM extension with farm grown, felled and milled wood.
No pics of snow blowing after a monster storm, no pics of maple syrup production, of the vegetable garden, of the many flower beds to be kept, of the wide expanse of lawns to mow, of weed whacking, forest management and maintenance, the portable saw-mill, the summer cottage, rhubarb chutney processing, the asparagus bed, the apple harvest, and no pics of the fitness room trampoline or the five workshops.
WHAT HELPX MEANS TO ME: Giving HelpXers a chance to be creative, inventive, resourceful and independent, given access to the extensive machinery and equipment that is available. Sure, the camaraderie a... more inside

We are a family of 5 homesteading on St. Joseph Island in Northern Ontario.

https://www.algomacountry.com/cities-towns/st-joseph-island/

St. Joseph island is located in the North Channel of Lake Huron very close to the Trans-Canada Highway and Sault Ste Marie, ON. It is a very beautiful area with many sand beaches, rocky shorelines, mature hardwood forests and many small islands and bays. We have wonderful kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing and general outdoor activities in the area. St. Joe's has a wonderful and active community that hosts many great events.

We have a 10 acre homestead in the woods surrounded by crown land and forest. There is abundant wildlife and nature to explore. We are very close to the water and spend a lot of time on the lake and beaches in the summer and fall.
We are working on developing a permaculture homestead/food forest. We currently have a large veggie garden, small orchard, maple syrup production, dairy goats, chickens, pigs and tur... more inside

This is a cage-free pet resort for kids since 1996. We are in the heart of Muskoka, minutes from world renown Algonquin Provincial Park where you will want to hike trails, check out their visitor centre and maybe a little camping or canoeing tripping while you are here.

Muskoka is the National Cottage Country capitol with over a 1,000 pristine lakes. Our property has lots of ponds and is located in the spring-fed kettle lakes hills that supply fresh water to Lake of Bays. Just steps away from us are 4 small lakes with blue heron rookeries, where moose, whitetail deer and other wildlife come for a drink. Those who love watching wildlife in their natural habitat will love it.

There are lots of hiking trails you can simply walk out and enjoy. We have bikes and a second house in Huntsville on a lake and walking distance to fun things in town, including Algonquin Outfitters where you can rent canoes, kayaks and water boards from the downtown dock, slip into a pub or coffee sh... more inside
