It's Calving season

We are a family run working cattle ranch with a commercial herd of Simmentals and a purebred herd of Charolais. We also have a small herd of horses and a pair of dogs to help work with the cattle. We calve from February through to March. Breeding starts in April so the different herds are sorted out before the spring field work starts in May. Haying starts in July and goes through to September. Then fall field work and bringing the herds home for winter feeding.
The farm house has 8 rooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. Good home cooked meals will be supplied. Helpers are welcomed throughout the year. We're in the middle of landscaping around the house working on the lawn and planting trees for a future windbreak, We will like to be able to plant a garden again if you don't want to be working with cattle or tractors.
We are found in the beautiful Peace River Country that covers the northeast area of B.C and Northwestern Alberta. This area is known for its Agriculture l... more inside

Thanks to all our helpers in 2019. For 2020, we'd love some springtime help in April for outside projects....eg. gardening, yardwork, fence building. After 4 hours of help in the morning, you have the rest of the day free to play....bike, hike, climb, explore, relax. Driver's license would be helpful. WiFi, bikes, relaxed atmosphere.

Quadra Island is a small piece of paradise; see our previous helpers’ comments. If you are interested in experiencing some laid-back island living, please get in touch and we can discuss more details. We look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

My small farm is located on the Somass River in Port Alberni. I have a small flock of sheep and lambs which are raised for meat, meat rabbits, ducks and geese. I also raise organic produce and maintain large gardens. If you want to experience animal husbandry and the daily care of sheep and rabbits and everyday life on an farm this is a great place. The lambs are usually born in February. The work on the farm is varied, and often involves cleaning barns, helping with the animals and weeding in the garden. Work in the garden and yard starts in the spring.

There are a lot of outdoor activities in this area. Hiking, kayaking, bicycling, with the West Coast Trail,Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino and Ucluelet are only an hour and half drive away. Mt Washington for skiing, snowboarding is also close by. I am on a river so swimming and tubing in the summer is a must. Victoria is only a few hours drive.
I have a room available for a single or a couple. Meals are shared when possibl... more inside
