We operate a small ranch situated in the Cariboo region of BC. Our extended family is nearby and family events and kids keep everyone involved.
We raise grassfed/finished beef on managed pastures using organic methods.(as yet uncertified). We also raise chickens and pigs for family use and maintain a large vegetable garden to produce healthy food for the family and some for market. Our interest in permaculture has initiated some nut tree planting and we also have made a start with blueberries and Haskap berries.
In winter there is firewood to haul, cattle to feed, and sometimes fence repairs. We try to get machinery overhauled in the slow season. Helpers should come with warm durable clothing, however, we can sometimes help out with this. It can be very cold here.
Our lakeside log home offers comfortable rooms, laundry, internet use, and a piano. We offer room and board in exchange for farm help. In winter there is cross country skiing available and the young people in the valle... more inside

Hi! Thanks for checking us out!

*We currently have availability for the month of June*

We live on a cozy acre of partially forested land nestled in a quiet neighbourhood by the sea just 15 minutes from downtown Victoria by bus - 10 minutes by car. Here we keep 12 chickens, 2 ducks, 5 honey bee hives, our loveable Australian Shepherd named Bandit, our 2 cats (R2D2 and Luke Skywalker), and several small gardens.

A few years ago we left our urban life and set forth on a journey across North America, volunteering on farms and learning about how to live differently on the earth.

Our journey brought us to Quadra Island where we recently purchased an old farm and are in the middle of converting it into a regenerative and thriving farmstead using permaculture, silvipasture, animal systems, compost, food forests...and lots of other awesome things! We think that animals are a very important part of creating a regenerative system. Currently we have chickens (layers and meat birds), goats, 2 dogs and a cat. We are very concerned about climate change and this is what is driving our determination to figure out how to live in a resilient and regenerative way. We also highly value living in community and sharing what we know with others, as well as learning from others in turn.

Quadra Island is a wonderful place to live. It is a beautiful place with a close-knit community of community-minded p... more inside
