A waterfront bnb on Salt Spring is seeking a kind and cheerful FRENCH speaking helper for garden chores, light cooking as related to bnb breakfasts and light cleaning. We will work together. Also for daily teaching /practising French with us..
approx 7AM to noon each day.... but as much French interaction as possible with young people here. Possibly some more formal conversational lessons set up. The rest of the time is yours to enjoy the property and the island.
I have no timeframe as I am always keeping my eyes and ears open for good connections and kind people.
We are vegetarian but do eat cheese eggs and fish. Lots of produce from the garden! Room and board provided.Sometimes the room may change depending on b and b bookings. Flexibility is great!

Hi Helpers,

UPDATE JUNE 14. Do you have good carpentry skills, and/or have energy to do some shovelling and digging? If so we'd love to hear from you!!

Please Note...Our reviews are based on our previous home on Gabriola Island.

We are a retired couple who still have a lot of energy and have always been hard working but, now need younger, able-bodied, willing individuals to give us a hand with harder projects here at our new home on Quadra Island.

We are "morning" people and would like helpers who greet the day with good humor, positive energy and will maintain their humor and "go with the flow attitude" when/if work plans change midstream! :)

We ask for 4 energetic hours per day, 5 days a week in the mornings leaving afternoons free for exploring our many trails, lakes, beaches and climbing rocks. We also have kayaks and bicycles you are welcome to use. Or, if you wish to stay on the property and hang out on the dock, watching marine life, you are welcome to do s... more inside

I am putting together my homestead on leased shared land. There are 6 family units involved in the 32 shared acres, of which I have use of 3 acres. I live off-grid in a 240 sq ft handbuilt caravan. I am practicing sustainability thru permaculture. my farm garden is beyond organic, relying on natures synergy. I am creating hugelkultur beds and lasagna beds as quickly as possible. It is my dream to grow all my own carbohydrates and livestock food in the near-ish future. This would make me fully self sufficient in food and herbs. also in the dream-works are an outdoor summer kitchen, another woodshed for storage, a solar oven, a solar water heater for the caravan, naturally filled pond/s for gravity irrigation, solar/wood heated outdoor shower and bathtub , a bicycle powered station for food grinding- and electricity production, more food forest which includes the polycultural food and medicinal garden, hoop house, composting toilet, coppiceable windbreaks, stone ridges for heat rete... more inside

A few years ago we left our urban life and set forth on a journey across North America, volunteering on farms and learning about how to live differently on the earth.

Our journey brought us to Quadra Island where we recently purchased an old farm and are in the middle of converting it into a regenerative and thriving farmstead using permaculture, silvipasture, animal systems, compost, food forests...and lots of other awesome things! We think that animals are a very important part of creating a regenerative system. Currently we have chickens (layers and meat birds), goats, 2 dogs and a cat. We are very concerned about climate change and this is what is driving our determination to figure out how to live in a resilient and regenerative way. We also highly value living in community and sharing what we know with others, as well as learning from others in turn.

Quadra Island is a wonderful place to live. It is a beautiful place with a close-knit community of community-minded p... more inside

Our family owns and operates a small high-density certified organic apple orchard, focusing on heritage and connoisseur apple varieties. We also run a small cidery on the property, bake and sell apple treats at market, host orchard tours and provide on-site apple and tree sales in season.

To date, farm volunteers (WWOOFers) have been a big part of our orchard development, as we need help with many orchard tasks on a year-round basis.

Brian and Peri both also do other work to make the whole effort feasible. Peri is a teacher; Brian is a writer and consultant.

All volunteers sleep in our spacious (20 by 16 foot) wall tent, which sits on a wood floor and is set up much like an apartment, with beds and furniture, plus a cozy wood stove. There is an outhouse right beside the tent and volunteers have use of dedicated bathroom and shower facilities nearby. Full access to kitchen facilities in our house, is just a short walk away.

June 2019: We are not taking on any helpers at this time.

Come experience life off-grid!

Lasqueti Island is a unique off-grid island with passenger only ferry service and hundreds of feral sheep. It`s a pretty fantastic place, with a great community of rugged, quirky characters and beautiful mossy forests, rocky bluffs, beaches and wetlands for you to explore in your time off, plus (depending on the season and how long you stay), there is the option of going to dance and yoga classes and/or the community sauna 2x/week, plus various fun seasonal community events like ArtsFest, Firefighters Picnic and the Fall Fair. June-September there is a weekly market on Saturdays. We`ve also got lots of great books on hand. The property has a pond (great for swimming in warmer weather) and backs on to crown land you can hike through down to the ocean. The island has some of the largest tracts of remaining mature coastal douglas fir forest and we see deer and feral sheep, (harmless, sm... more inside

Thanks to Caroline and Wyatt for all their help this spring with gardening, housesitting, and yard work. Now we're looking for 1 or 2 people for a long stay (perhaps mid-June to mid-September) to help with the Bed and Breakfast and with gardening in the organic vegetable and Japanese style gardens. After 4 hours of help in the morning, you have the rest of the day free to play....bike, hike, climb, explore, relax. Driver's license would be helpful. WiFi, bikes, relaxed atmosphere.

Quadra Island is a small piece of paradise; see our previous helpers’ comments. If you are interested in experiencing some laid-back island living, please get in touch and we can discuss more details. We look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!
