Not Accepting New Helpers At The Moment. Thanks

Hello Helpers,

We are a retired couple who have moved to Quadra Island and are in the process of creating a serene oasis on our 3 acre property. We would like to invite motivated, engaging, happy helpers to give us a hand with all manner of manual labour.i.e. preparing the land for a veggie garden and improving what is here already.

Being "morning" people, we prefer helpers who greet the day with good humor and positive energy.

We request 25 hr per week in the mornings. Lunch is eaten together, leaving afternoons free for exploring our trails, lakes, beaches, climbing rocks and quaint village. We provide food for breakfast and supper and it's casual so you can eat when you it suits you.
We also have kayaks and bicycles you are welcome to use. Or, if you wish to stay on the property, hang out on the dock, and watch marine life, (seals, otters, porpoise, mink and tons of bird life etc) you are welcome to do so.

Would you like to come and help us out?

We are located in Sandspit, on Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago in the northern part of BC, close to Alaska.

We are a small (5 rooms) and comfortable Guest House overlooking a scenic bay in our tiny community (250 residents) and only settlement on Moresby island. Since a few years, we operate a small Hostel within the B&B, just one room, with 3 single beds in.

There are daily flights from Vancouver to Sandspit, where the property is located, and also a ferry coming from Prince Rupert a few times a week.

I am a 39 year old male, originally from France and in Canada since over 10 years. I just became a citizen in 2018. This is now going to be my 10th summer on the islands. I have been and am still a helper myself and have traveled in Canada using various websites. I have also traveled for a few years in Australia and New Zealand, on Working Holiday Visas.
I am a long distance cyclist during the winter months and like to explore L... more inside

Thanks to all our helpers in 2019. For 2020, we'd love some help for the end of May, beginning of June, for seasonal clean up inside and outside.....gardening, yardwork, cleaning, cooking, etc. For June, July, August, September we'd like one long term helper (1 month or more) to help with more gardening in the organic vegetable and Japanese style gardens, some cleaning, some cooking. After 4 hours of help in the morning, you have the rest of the day free to play....bike, hike, climb, explore, relax. Driver's license would be helpful. Paid work opportunities are available on the island. WiFi, bikes, relaxed atmosphere.

Quadra Island is a small piece of paradise; see our previous helpers’ comments. If you are interested in experiencing some laid-back island living, please get in touch and we can discuss more details. We look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

We have been developing 5 acres on Salt Spring Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada for the last 9 years. We are building new garden areas and improving those that we started over the last 6 years. A lot of the work will be related to digging new areas, planting, mixing soil, etc. We are also in the process of building a greenhouse. We also have a lot of wood to be chopped using a hydraulic wood chopper as well as stacking this firewood.

We eat very healthy with a lot from our gardens. We are mostly vegetarian. We prefer to take in one worker at a time.

We can offer you very comfortable accommodations with internet. You will have your own full bathroom and your private space where you can enjoy your breakfast. We will be pleased to eat our main meals together in our home. Of course all of the food is part of what we have to offer for your help in our projects. We are mostly vegetarian.

We are a retired couple and have a lot of energy and plans. No children.

We have a small two acre hobby farm in the gulf islands. Our island is accessible by a small ferry that runs several times per day.

Our farm has horses, milk goats, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats. Oh, and three children!

We do some gardening for food but our primary focus is sustainable living.

We need assistance with a number of things including animal husbandry, land clearing, firewood, farm chores, and fence building.

We expect four to five hours of work five days a week for a term of two weeks at a time.

In exchange we have accommodations in a travel trailer that will sleep two (you may also tent or bring your own trailer); one shared meal with us per day (and access to food for your other meals), wifi and potentially horseback riding if you have experience.

Our property has two private beaches, a communal orchard with apple and plum trees and is surrounded by a beautiful forest. There are opportunities for hiking, kayaking and swimming in the summer too.
