Update: We are currently looking for some helpers to help us get ready for the 2020 growing season. If you would like to come to beautiful Quadra Island and work with us, please get in touch!

A few years ago we left our urban life and set forth on a journey across North America, volunteering on farms and learning about how to live differently on the earth.

Our journey brought us to Quadra Island where we recently purchased an old farm and are in the middle of converting it into a regenerative and thriving farmstead using permaculture, silvipasture, animal systems, compost, food forests...and lots of other awesome things! We think that animals are a very important part of creating a regenerative system. Currently we have chickens (layers and meat birds), ducks, geese, goats, 2 dogs and a cat, and soon we will be getting some sheep! We are very concerned about climate change and this is what is driving our determination to figure out how to live in a resilient and regenerati... more inside

We are a family with 4 kids (5,7,9,14) who live on an 3 acre lakefront property. We have a big garden and my husband Aaron rubs a sawmill. There is a main house, bell tent, trailer, and outbuildings on the property.

We ask for 5-6 hours per day, 5 days a week and are flexible in terms of the type of work and schedule as requested by our guests.

We are experienced WWOOFers and hosts but new to HelpX.

The Property and Accommodation: *There is clothing optional beach access on our property as we are located on the lake.

Other perks- You are welcome to borrow our boats to get there by water (about 5 min kayak paddle, then 5 min walk) across the lake. Walking is about 15 min, hitching is super easy, or via bike it is about 7 min. It is about 1.5 km away to the cafe, natural food co-op, Friday market, etc located in Manson's Landing.

It is Summer and I have sawlogs here at home to mill the timbers to complete the building of a Timber-Frame greenhouse and carport. I could really use the assistance of anybody who is interested in learning how to saw logs and build.

I am looking for Helpers who are keen to learn new skills and desire to experience coastal life in British Columbia. Quadra Island is a wonderful location for finding the "Island Life", we are a friendly community and welcome visitors. We have a well developed hiking and mtn. biking trail system as well many first class Parks. Salmon and fresh water fishing for trout and digging clams and picking oysters off of the beaches are favourite activities.

Hello Helpers,

We are a retired couple recently moved to Quadra Island, a short ferry ride from Campbell River, who would like to invite motivated, engaging, happy helpers to give us a hand. We're still very active but have slowed down a little!

Being "morning" people, we prefer helpers who greet the day with good humor and positive energy.

We request 25 hr per week in the mornings. Lunch, which is our big meal of the day is usually prepared for you and is taken together, leaving afternoons free for exploring our trails, lakes, beaches, climbing rocks and quaint village. There are kayaks and a canoe which you are welcome to borrow. Breakfast and supper are casual. Help with
general household cleanup is appreciated.
Chores vary and could be wood chopping, rock work, gardening, clearing brush, building, cleaning, painting, maintenance... depending on the time of year and weather conditions. Please be prepared to get dirty and sweaty at times, as we do :)We will not ask yo... more inside

I live off-grid in a 240 sq ft handbuilt caravan. I am practicing sustainability thru permaculture. my farm garden is beyond organic, relying on natures synergy. It is my dream to be fully self sufficient in food and herbs. also in the dream-works are an outdoor summer kitchen, a solar oven, a solar water heater for the caravan, solar/wood heated outdoor shower and bathtub , a bicycle powered station for food grinding- and electricity production, more food forest which includes the polycultural food and medicinal garden, hoop house, composting toilet, coppiceable windbreaks, stone ridges for heat retention and dew harvesting, tool shed, earth plaster walls and more. You will sleep in a tent, or the living space of the caravan[ I sleep in the loft bed]- or vice versa. Bathing and toiletting are rustic/primitive. I have NO fridge or freezer. My diet is organic, omnivorous and sugar, milk and gluten free. I have chickens and ducks for eggs and meat. I will expect 12-15 hours work a wee... more inside

We are a family of four looking for a bit of help on our large property, located on beautiful Quadra Island. Our household includes a forest ecologist, a nurse/avid gardener, a 13 year-old boy, and a 10 year-old girl. We are always keen to meet new people and share knowledge.

Our home is located on 5 hectares of forested land, including many trees that are over 50m tall. We built our timber frame house about 15 years ago with locally milled wood that was mostly sourced from trees growing our property. In addition to our forest, we have large gardens that were developed based on principles of permaculture, a nice lawn that is great for badminton, slack lining, and bocce ball, chickens that produce fresh eggs daily, baby runner ducks, and two friendly dogs. In our house, we have a spare bedroom for guests to sleep in, but while Covid-19 remains a concern, we expect helpers to self isolate in our camper or tent for at least two weeks prior to entering our home. Also, to reduce cro... more inside

Hi, I'm Emma and my husband is Rob. I'm originally from Wales Uk and started my little farm a couple of years ago. I'm slowly but surely growing and developing.
We raise sheep, chickens, quail and rabbits. We are also starting our first year in fresh produce.
Duties will include gardening, animal care and maintainence, fencing, building and general labour. We are very small so these duties are not overly extensive daily hours may vary but will be 5 hours a day in exchange for food and accommodation.
Although remote this is a wonderful location on a tiny island called alert bay, surrounded by ocean, mountain views and spectacular beauty and amazing wildlife such as whales, sea lions, seal, dolphins, porpoises etc. It is a unique and friendly community with rich history and cultural heritage. If you are looking for wild evenings and bustling city life then this is not the right place. If you love the outdoors, animals and nature then it's paradise.
Kayaking, whale watching, fi... more inside
