A few years ago we left our urban life and set forth on a journey across North America, volunteering on farms and learning about how to live differently on the earth.

Our journey brought us to Quadra Island where we recently purchased an old farm and are in the middle of converting it into a regenerative and thriving farmstead using permaculture, silvipasture, animal systems, compost, food forests...and lots of other awesome things! We think that animals are a very important part of creating a regenerative system. Currently we have chickens (layers and meat birds), goats, 2 dogs and a cat. We are very concerned about climate change and this is what is driving our determination to figure out how to live in a resilient and regenerative way. We also highly value living in community and sharing what we know with others, as well as learning from others in turn.

Quadra Island is a wonderful place to live. It is a beautiful place with a close-knit community of community-minded p... more inside

Our family owns and operates a small high-density certified organic apple orchard, focusing on heritage and connoisseur apple varieties. We also run a small BandB on the property, bake and sell apple treats at market, host orchard tours and provide on-site apple and tree sales in season.

We have run our BandB since purchasing this property 8 years ago.

To date, farm volunteers (WWOOFers) have been a big part of our orchard development, as we need help with many orchard tasks on a year-round basis.

Brian and Peri both also do other work to make the whole effort feasible. Peri is a teacher; Brian is a writer and consultant.

All volunteers sleep in our spacious (20 by 16 foot) wall tent, which sits on a wood floor and is set up much like an apartment, with beds and furniture, plus a cozy wood stove. There is an outhouse right beside the tent and volunteers have use of dedicated bathroom and shower facilities nearby. Full access to kitchen facilities in our house, is jus... more inside

looking for lots of helpers for April 1st and 15th!

I are looking for individuals, couples or groups of friends to help around our homestead! We are seeking help with wood collection and chainsaw work, trail building and maintenance, some basic carpentry, or anyone with plumbing or electrical experience. Also looking for help with cleaning, animal care and landscaping assistance. No experience necessary.

I provide 3 meals/day and a place to lay your head at night.

On your time off enjoy my canoes, kayaks and hiking trails as well as salt and fresh water fishing. We also frequently water ski, wakeboard and go tubbing in our protected bay, or go for a hike up to a beautiful fresh water lake! Our island has no stores or roads so you must be comfortable in remote wilderness areas.

Check us out on Facebook and Instagram as `Cathers Cove`. Transportation is provided to and from Campbell River, BC (we are on Beautiful Sonora Island, an hour boat ride from Campbell River.... more inside

join me here, surrounded by 400 acres of old growth forested park land (the bottom end of denman). Miles of remote beaches, where you will see whales, sea lions eagles and all the clams and oysters you can eat.
This house was built in Victoria in 1950 and moved to its present location in 1992 by myself and some fine friends. It is the primary residence on the property but still needs the love and attention of skilled and semi skilled artisans in the fields of carpentry, finishing, and hundreds(thousands?) of small details... We have recently added one llama, two sheep, three pigs and ten muscovy ducks to the family, we are now constructing fences and a barn for future livestock. Now have a sweet little caravan for exploring Vancouver island.Lots of bicycles, and great trails! Hoping to find travelers who would be interested in helping to renovate, and make comfortable a 1947 aluminum bus and a 1964 barth aluminum trailer for more private accommodation.

We are a senior couple who live on a small organic hobby farm where we raise poultry and cows for meat and eggs and enjoy the occasional help of helpx visitors who join us for approximately two weeks at a time. The vegetable garden, fruit trees and berry patches provide produce for meals which our helpers eat with us. There are two basement bedrooms for single or double occupancy and wifi is available. Work consists of general farm maintenance, care of animals and help in the gardens. This spring we could use some help cutting wood also. Work hours are flexible so helpers have an opportunity to take advantage of the many hiking trails, beaches and the beauty of our island. There is a variety of entertainment at the local community center, three pubs and two small shopping centers. Our farm is 5 kilometers away from stores and the ferry to the town of Campbell River. We enjoy having our helpers from various lifestyles join us and deeply appreciate the help they give us.

I am putting together my homestead on leased shared land. There are 6 family units involved in the 32 shared acres, of which I have use of 3 acres. I live off-grid in a 240 sq ft handbuilt caravan. I am practicing sustainability thru permaculture. my farm garden is beyond organic, relying on natures synergy. I am creating hugelkultur beds and lasagna beds as quickly as possible. It is my dream to grow all my own carbohydrates and livestock food in the near-ish future. This would make me fully self sufficient in food and herbs. also in the dream-works are an outdoor summer kitchen, another woodshed for storage, a solar oven, a solar water heater for the caravan, naturally filled pond/s for gravity irrigation, solar/wood heated outdoor shower and bathtub , a bicycle powered station for food grinding- and electricity production, more food forest which includes the polycultural food and medicinal garden, hoop house, composting toilet, coppiceable windbreaks, stone ridges for heat rete... more inside

Ourfarm is an organic hazelnut farm with lots of walnut- and fruit trees as well as berries, vegetables and flowers. Currently we have three bee hives, about 20 happy chickens, a dog and two cats.
Our three hay fields are conventionally farmed by another farmer of the Island. Work around the farm includes harvesting, weeding, reclaiming of overgrown areas, firewood from our own forest, fence repair and -building, cleaning and feeding of the chickens, road repair, construction and maintenance of outbuildings, mowing, the handling of any farm machine and several other big and little things as they come up and whatever the day to day business on a versatile farm looks like. Currently, after a winter with unusual amounts of snow we have a few repair- and maintenance jobs around the fences and driveways.
Our family has seven members, consisting of myself and my husband and five grown up children between the ages of 18 and 34 who come and go as their lives outside the farm allow.
