My small farm is located on the Somass River in Port Alberni. I have a small flock of sheep and lambs which are raised for meat, meat rabbits, ducks and geese. I also raise organic produce and maintain large gardens. If you want to experience animal husbandry and the daily care of sheep and rabbits and everyday life on an farm this is a great place. The lambs are usually born in February. The work on the farm is varied, and often involves cleaning barns, helping with the animals and weeding in the garden. Work in the garden and yard starts in the spring.

There are a lot of outdoor activities in this area. Hiking, kayaking, bicycling, with the West Coast Trail,Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino and Ucluelet are only an hour and half drive away. Mt Washington for skiing, snowboarding is also close by. I am on a river so swimming and tubing in the summer is a must. Victoria is only a few hours drive.
I have a room available for a single or a couple. Meals are shared when possibl... more inside

We are a community farm made up of families and single people who are doing their utmost to live life fully and honestly. In our radical life of togetherness we are being healed of the separation that is so prevalent in today’s society. Come spend some time with us on our organic farm in the lee of Mount Washington, whether it be gardening, preparing meals, caring for animals, working in our Café in Courtenay, singing, dancing, sharing meals, doing construction, processing milk into yogurt and cheese, or sharing your heart among friends (just to name a few!). Always exciting, always social. Come for a day or to stay!

Hello wonderful Helpx community:-)

We are a family of 5 living near Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island. In the past, we have traveled extensively, but we just moved into our dream home, and now with small children we are feeling a need to travel vicariously through others and meet some fabulous people. We have met so many wonderful people through helpx!

Our new home has spectacular views, a hot tub and absolutely amazing hiking trails near by. Sooke is 13 km away, and Victoria is 30 km away. The surrounding area is fantastic - ocean beaches and lakes within a few km, many parks, and a great trail system. We have a resident owl who routinely serenades us. Bus service is available, but limited. Crispin drives into Victoria daily for work, so carpooling could be a option.

Our lovely guest room is very comfortable, and has views across the garden and into the surrounding forest. Laundry and Wifi are available. We would be also open to hosting a family with children. ... more inside

Our location:

Located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, we are non-certified organic gardeners living on an urban lot bordering a salmon bearing creek and forest. Our shade garden has native plants that attract birds and bees. Sunnier spots grow fruit trees and berries in raised beds. We garden to create soil, shade and habitat for the critters as well as nourishment for ourselves.

The Comox Valley is a destination for outdoor pursuits all year long, with alpine meadows and the sheltered marine life of the Salish Sea within a few kilometers in either direction, and mostly accessible by bus and/or bicycle. Between the mountains, rivers, lakes and the ocean there are places to swim, fish, hike, trail run, mountain or road bike, tube, swim or kayak, photograph, wild life watch, fossil-hunt, gallery hunt, and attend ecology /environmental/cultural, sporting and outdoor events/community and activist events year around. We have a flourishing year-round Farmers Market. Mount ... more inside
