*update March 21, 2020: Due to COVID-19, The Northwest Territories government has closed the borders to the territory, with exceptions for NWT residents. If you're currently in the NWT already or you're a NWT resident wanting to volunteer, we'd love to have you! Otherwise we unfortunately have to wait until the travel ban is lifted to accept new volunteers.

We operate the only not-for-profit farm school in the Northwest Teprritories, which is also the largest farm in the area. We are a Savory Hub with the Savory Institute. We currently have 6 staff members, 4 live on-site (2 are seasonal) and 2 live off site. We are enthusiastlic about our work and love to share our knowledge with others as well as learn from others. ABOUT US
I'm your host, Tessa and I'd like to welcome you to our place. Our beautiful Yellowknife, NWT home is perched atop Old Town’s Latham Island, overlooking Great Slave Lake and the best aurora (northern lights) in the world! Relax by the fireplace or out on the deck, enjoy simple living at our pleasant ‘home-stay’ with casual atmosphere and eclectic northern decor.

Myself and my husband Mike are long time northerners. I'm a free-lance photographer, most recently working on a series of children's books about Northern Peoples. Mike owns and operates a wilderness tourist lodge. It’s a great way to really meet the North - with people who have lived here for 40 years! We have the pleasure of being in the hospitality business for 25 plus years.

ABOUT THE HOUSE
The place is located in charming Old Town area near hiking and biking trails and just a minute from the lake shore’s public park. Perfectly located, we are several minutes walk from northern style restaurants, intrig... more inside

We have a couple greenhouses, two outside garden plots and raised bed gardens, and we keep meat chickens in the spring/summer. We are an Aboriginal couple, who are willing to host volunteers in our 4 bedroom home. We have two dogs, a basset hound and a Rottweiler; they are very friendly and are great chicken protectors. We also run a b&b, a construction business, and also work 9-5 jobs. We are not vegetarian; we do a lot of hunting, fishing, and camping. We love cookouts, and its our nature to share and enjoy food! Our community is right on the Mackenzie River so we do a lot of boating, especially to our cabin about an hour from town. Our home has all the facilities for cooking, laundry, two bathrooms, and internet usage. We are pretty laid back people; we do not drink or smoke. Smoking is allowed outside only. We expect approx. 3-4 hrs of work at the most..we are flexible. Other chores beside gardening could include light carpentry and wood-hauling.

We are looking for someone to help work with our dogs from June to September 2020 and October 2020 to April 2021. You will have fun! We have a 40 sled dog sprint racing kennel about 3 hours west of Yellowknife, NT by road. Looking for an athletic, motivated person who loves working with dogs. The dogs are a mix of German short hair pointer and Alaskan husky and very energetic. We provide board (cabin with wood stove), outdoor clothing, great meals, laundry, internet and cell phone access. Depending on ability and interest, there may be an opportunity to try sled dog racing. The work involves feeding, caring (daily poop patrol) and training the sled dogs and puppies and maintaining trails in winter. Be prepared for cold weather (-30C), snow, northern lights in winter. A great experience either way.

Are you interested in learning about sled dogs and racing? Have you always wanted to see the Northern Lights? Would you like to be able to combine the two and travel as well?

Yellowknife is the best location in the world for viewing the aurora borealis. As nights grow longer, the green, red and mauve lights of aurora borealis, or northern lights, are absolutely brilliant as they dance across the sky.

We are looking for a volunteer to assist as a handler.

We have a 40 sled dog racing kennel not including puppies in the heart of Yellowknife.

Looking for help with our Racing dog kennel, we currently have 36 racing dogs. We are a family run kennel, our dogs mean the world to us. We both work shift work and we are looking for assistance with doing dog chores and running / racing a team.

Fall training is quickly approaching and we are looking for one helper to come for fall and winter. We are a fun, energized couple, we both work full time jobs and require assistance with running and dog chores.

We live A short distance from our kennel so a drivers license would be an asset.

Looking forward to hearing from you :)

This is a family run market garden in Paradise Valley, Hay River Northwest Territories. We grow a variety of vegetables, herbs, cut flowers and berries and sell weekly at a local farmers market. We also have a number of bee hives and produce local honey and products such as soap and preserves from our honey and berries.

Volunteers at our farm stay in their own private two story cabin and assist with weeding, pruning, harvesting berries, vegetables and honey and sometimes assist with the chickens and sheep. We live right beside a beautiful river with easy access to hiking trails, waterfalls, beaches and more!
